I looked at this link and it doesn't help... should I disconnect all 3 ECM fuses to be able to reset the dash lights?

I can't say I've ever heard of the ECU itself being the cause of our dash lights not working. I would check the fuse for your instrument cluster. I believe it's in the fuse box on the drivers side (USDM) outer footwell.

If you really want to reset your ECU then unplug your battery and stomp your brake pedal a bunch of times (15 to 30) to fully discharge it. Wait 10 or so minutes then plug your battery back in. I doubt this procedure will change anything as it relates to your instrument cluster lighting.

what I am trying to do is to clear the check engine and airbag lights which come up for no reason (Mazda dealer tried many times to figure out what's going on without success).

Tony, given what you are facing, the ECU fuse is not the culprit anyway.
Simply disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes will reset the ECU and clear everything, so that's not your issue. If you decide to disconnect the battery, then know when you reconnect you will have to do the TCS/DCS reset.

Ok, there is a far easier way to clear any stored Check Engine Light codes and it requires an OBD2 reader. If you don't have access to a reader then simply follow the procedure I captured.

The codes will likely come back though as you haven't actually "fixed" anything.

Turn the car to "on", but do not start it. Turn the wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left. Then turn car off, wait 10 seconds, and start as normal.

Hi I have 05mazda rx8 PZ

Recently my battery died when I connected the cable I connected them wrong way round

And now I have some electric power

Basically at first I was told to check main fuse which was ok....but I still changed it as I ordered one so thort I'd just put it on....I've checked all fuses and relays

The only fuse which had blown was the room fuse which I've replaced

I've even checked the ecu which seems fine

What could it be???

Been told maybe the Immobiliser not letting me start the car???

The only power I have is to all window, headlight, stereo and air conditioning unit works fine....

When I put key in ignition I have no lights on dash apart from flashing key light and door open light ( door was open so this why its on)....I can hear a clicking noise from main fuse box??? Normally when key is turned to on u get lights and the gauges light up.....but this does not happen....? I get nothing but all other electrical works....from horn headlights windows stereo and also AC.....I've noticed the central locking doesn't work....

When I turn key to start engine I've noticed the boot opens??? Could this be related or could be in related???

I've checked ecu seems fine...doesn't look fried....

So all the gauges have no power and won't turn over....

Any body have same issue ??? Or. An any one suggest anything for me to try or replace ???

Couple of more fuses to check.
And are you sure the 120A main fuse is still okay?
Do you have access to a multimeter so you can check it?

Also check #8, #19, #20 in the engine bay fuse box. (See attached pdf)

Yep main fuse is good replaced with new fuse....

Found the cause of problem...basically the wiring loom has been ripped
Location is back passenger side....I had body repaired and some velding-near this wiring loom I think the body workshop guy mite of cut it opened by mistake which left wire shorting I've since repaired repaired cables but still same problem

I have some electrics power
My stereo works,AC works, horn, headlights, all work

I get no crank my gauges don't light up when I turn key to on or even to ignition

I know the wiring loom has caused this
Now I don't know what to check I've checked all fuses any idea people
I need some help guys

I deleted your other two posts, please don't create multiple posts in different threads with the same topic.


The list of possibilities is significant. It could be just about anything when someone starts cutting a wiring harness. Even if they didn't, it's entirely possible that you fried one or more electrical modules when you hooked up the battery the wrong way around. Been several of those recently. It's simply not really something that we can diagnose for you over the internet.

It is going to be a long and painstaking process to trace every wire, test every module, clean every connection, check every wire repair. And yes ,that is what you are going to have to do.

Sorry I've spoken to the body shop and they now told me the truth
I've said I'm not gona ask for repair cost just tell me what happen

What has happened is while grinding down a veld they accidentally cut they the wire loom and then just taped it up....they confirmed THEY DID NOT CONNECT JUMPER CABLE INCORRECTLY...as I did suspect the main fuse to have blown I did order one and after inspection the fuse was not blown...but I still changed it....I've checked all the repaired cables

ARE THERE ANY OTHER RELAYS IN THE CAR ? OTHER THAN IN MAIN FUSE BOX....??

THE RELAYS UNDER THE BONNET CLICK AS THEY SHOULD AND I'VE EVEN CHANGED THEM??

I've looked thru the rx8 wiring PDF but it doesn't. Really show any internal relays???
But I had a look under driver side ( under dash board) and found one there??? Any idea what this controls???

Any one have any suggestion or had a similar problem???

All the main relays are in the box. I think there are a couple others scattered through the car, like one near the rear for the rear lighting, and at least one under the steering column. None of them will prevent the engine from firing I don't think. Fuses are in 2 locations, either the engine bay box or the driver's footwell kick-panel. However, if your fuses and relays and wiring is all solid, then start testing electronics modules. One could easily be fried.
