You know ... you could make a custom cold air intake ...

... it'd be cheaper and may perform better

Well, they're not original ideas (but then, with most of this stuff what is?), I've been flirting with the possibility of putting a CAI on mine.

A quick search on the american forums come up with some good ideas.

One that would probably work best is this one by speedrx8er, but I'd be more inclined to place the filter down a bit further, behind the numberplate ... however that could be messy.

Another one is putting a pod inside your stock airbox and making an inlet pipe that runs from the underside of the numberplate to the stock airbox ... this is the one I like the most. There's a thread on the DIY forum, I couldn't find it though, so apologies in advance for not having a link.

Reluctance to do it is coming from the fact that it is only a minor performance enhancement and it may not be worth the time and hassle of remembering to clean an air filter every 10-20k. Unless you recommend otherwise?

Has anybody demonstrated any appreciable gains with CAI's?

I thought the accepted wisdom was that they don't add much Kw, if any.

my butt dyno tells me there are no noticeable kw gains from my setup....(then again, my butt dyno hasnt been calibrated....) but it the engine feels more responsible and sounds better.

If it's more responsive I reckon it'd be worth it

Has anyone here swapped their ecu for an aftermarket one yet? I'm sure that's when power increases will start to show with a CAI vs stock box.

Fair enough.

I like a responsible engine.
