Group Buy: Spark Plugs and Leads
Looking to get a group buy together for spark plugs (4) and leads from THmotorsports. I have msg them and if we can get a group buy of 5 together we can get them landed in Aus for approx $154US a set. Local postage would be on top of this. Details of item is in the link below
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=188181
Is anyone interested in this if i organise it (ie get it posted to me then post it out to you). I'm looking to order in the next week or two so let me know ASAP if you are interested
This group buy is no longer on.

I think you need to get a bit of CRED before you start to organise a GB...
New member and only 3 posts, who do we know who you are???

Ash8, I thought that may be the case but i thought i'd try as i am going to order them for myself and if i can get another 4 people we will save a reasonable bit of money each.
As for who i am, My name is Ashley (From Newcastle), Several people on the forums know me. I went to the 2009 RX8 Nationals and have been to several cruises. If i get no joy here i'll get validated on the .com.au site and try there.
Thanks for your feedback, i'm just looking to save myself and others some money
Regards Ash

No Problems....Ashley (gee good to see your mum knows how to spell your/our name)...the Yanks get it wrong...it annoys me!
Anyway...I understand, but if you want guys to part with their $$$'s to you you need to be a member a little longer..and I think there are also forum rules with GB's...not sure though..
Not meaning to rain on your parade...so to speak.
Personally, I have 2 sets of plus and a set or Original OEM leads ($68 US for the Leads)...
Hope, it works out, perhaps if you Buy these sets yourself and then sell them???..Sorry I don't know...then there are forum rules for selling on here...
See how you go Ash...
Cheers

there's no rules for group buys afaik. there are rules for vendors though, which is a different thing entirely.
if people have concerns about who you are, it's a good idea to get a more established member to vouch for you (if you know any).
this forum has done pretty well on trust in my experience. none of the national events would have happened without it. I'm not aware of any GB's going sour either.
although Ash raised some valid concerns, I wish netfader had stuck to his guns here and left his invitation open. in what is now a pretty quiet forum we should be careful not to reject new blood by allowing our concerns to overshadow our welcome.
my 2 cents.

Revolver, i ummd and ahhd about it for a while because of the reasons ASH8 put forward (Which were valid) but then i decided to put it up as i have found the RX8 community pretty good and have really enjoyed events like the rx8 nationals. I was also impressed by gb like the previous spark plug one (not that i was involved, but i read the thread) and wanted to continue this tradition. Essentially i wanted to save some money and put something back (as it is a bit of work for the organiser of a gb).
I might put it back up on the .com.au site after becoming a validated member (i know a few of the guys). There is also other things i wanted to do as a group buy later (coils would be the next). As we all know whether shipping 1 item or 5 (for small items) the shipping cost is close to the same and you can quite often get a discount if you ask.
The other option is would a more "trusted member" be willing to run the gb (even if they aren't purchasing the item). i am sure many wouldn't go for a gb with me because i haven't been on the forums long (i myself am very cautious of these things).
Any other suggestions for GB's?? we could get some good stuff cheap if someone will put in the effort and everyone is comfortable with the arrangment
Thanks

Assuming this is Harold, i have bought from him before and he is very good (i bought some RP oil). I was going to purchase my plugs through him and it's hard to get them cheaper than from him unless we do a group buy. Also note that the price that i put at the start of this thread is for plugs AND leads so i think the price is pretty good.

You can get plugs from www.rotaryfx.com. for $US98 shipped to your door. They are NGK plugs who make the originals for Mazda and are identical to the OEM part. Look under the Ignition section and you will seen them. Works out at about$115`for a set.

I just place an order with Jason about an hour before your post...
I have a number of bits coming...
I also ordered a spare MAF (while our dollar is still good)....
But their MAF's are change over with a $65US deposit!!!
I messaged Jason to see if he can do anything or order an OEM one, as I think they are about $20 US more... having to return the MAF from OZ for a refund is not really that cost effective...border line...what do you think??
Anyway, I would be happy to send your MAF to you if you want...just get Jason to put it in my box..

Having a spare set of plugs, leads and coils is a good idea with this car. Ignition system is a known weak spot and you rarely get much warning that they're on the way out. Having a spare set gets you on the road again quickly without paying stealership prices.
Group buys are a good idea if you can get people in the same neck of the woods together, to save too much reposting, etc. However, the money you save may not be worth the hassle with some items - discounts vary but you'll rarely get more than 10% off in my limited experience of this kind of deal. Others may have better savings to report....
