Smile Greetings .......... and roll on 2005

Hi,

After lurking around here for the last 12 months, finally decided to register and say hello in person.

Firstly, I would like to say "you lucky buggers" to everyone who has an RX-8 already. Unfortunately, I won't be getting one until 2005 due to existing commitments, but it's number 1 in my list of priorities. It will be my first rotary.

Finally got my wife sold on a RX-8 thanks to the Mazda 3 launch. We got an invite to attend the Mazda 3 launch at Eagers Mazda, Brisbane last Thursday night. Free champagne (wife had too much) and nibbles.

We actually spent more time in and around RX-8s (they had 4 - Titanium, Red, Black, and Winning Blue) than the Mazda 3s. Wife & I tested all the seating arrangements out (making sure there was enough space for our 2 kids), and boot space (will still have to use the Premacy for the long holidays with the kids). Wife was happy and liked the car a lot - but not enough that we'll be getting one sooner than 2005.

Decided on Winning Blue as the 1st choice colour (unless Mazda repent and make use the Sunburst Yellow from the SP20). Have to say I don't like the washed out yellow used on the RX-8, 6 Sports and new SP23 (sorry Lock & Load).

I have a test drive booked for next week when my SP20 goes in for service. They're letting me drive it to work, before I have to give it back.

Not entirely sure if having the test drive is a good idea as the extended agony of the wait to get one of my own might be pretty unbearable.....but the temptation to take one for a free spin is too much to resist.

It's sad but I'm already excited about a 30-odd minute spin in an RX-8. Must be "dreadful" containing all that enthusiasm if you actually own one.

Welcome on board .

I realise yellow is not to everyones taste , as they say each man to his own poison .

By 2005 Mazda will properly have some new colours , and may have improved some aspects of the RX8 , so being patient and waiting may be worthwile .(Also helps in saving your pennies .)

However having said that by the beggining of 2005 i would have had 2 more years of RX8 fun than you .

That is an unquantanfiable Fun experience.he he he.

Hi Michael,

I actually have a yellow SP20 at the moment. So it's not a yellow issue per se, but rather the fact that the yellow on all new Mazda's is paler and less pronounced in IMO. Both my wife and I greatly favour the darker yellow over the paler.

I'd take an RX-8 in Sunburst Yellow (SP20 colour) with no issues whatsoever.

As for the waiting v's the driving ..................I'd much rather be driving now than waiting but then again I would have thought that would be obvious.

Cheers

Aaron

Talking Had my 1st drive of an RX-8 today

Bad form to bump one's own thread but the excuse is good.

I drove an RX-8 for the first time today. :D :D :D

Just a short drive from Newstead to the Airport and back - just long enough to really feel out the car.

Unfortunately as the car was still not run in and a demo to boot, Revs had to stay below 6K, And due to traffic and some roadworks on Airport drive, not much chance to get up to cruising speed....although a couple of truck/van/taxi drivers were know-doubt muttering somethink derogatory about the black RX-8 that glided in and out of traffic around and between them this morning :p

The most stand out feature from my short "blat" was the steering. Sensational, pure genius. Top marks for the all electric system - loved it.

Gearbox is a dream too....but going to have to work on those lightning smooth changes to keep the motor purring at high revs.

Didn't have much opportunity to stretch the motor, but kept having to throttle back when accidentally exceeding the speed limit whilst in 2nd. :o

The SP20 just didn't feel the same when I picked it up from it's scheduled service (and 4 new tyres )

Thanks to Dan at Eagers, Brisbane for the chance to drive one well before current plans have me getting one (and he knows it).

Wife has been very tolerant this evening and has tried not to look too exasperated everytime I started a sentence with "Did I tell you how good the RX-8 .........." .

Got serious rotary pangs now.

Kiwimeat

My wife is also a RX8 whinger everytime i mention the rx8 she cringess .

My standard reply is OK would you rather i talk about my girlfriends , ex girfiends or my misstres, that ussually shuts her up .

Women also get jealous of the attention us blokes give to their cars .(Insecure creatures arent they ).

Some of my favourite sayings about women :

Most women are like PARKING METTERS , once you stop putting the money in they EXPIRE.

If it wasnt for the fact that women give men comfort (sex )and
give birth to our children, they would have died out with the dinosaurs .

Welcome Kiwimeat (I'm frightened to ask wlky you have that name)

I had to waat nearly 10 weeks for my 8 (colour availability) and went nuts day on day.

If I were you I'd find some what to rejig the committments to get the 8 now - no time like the present! Your dealer F&I guy will no doubt come up with a way to finance any negative equity in the deal and let you zoom on much sooner. Also, car loan rates are only going to climb in the next 2 months so locking in a fixed term fixed rate deal now will make good sense.

Hi pricer01

Thanks for the welcome.

Were to start?........

The Name
kiwimeat is my online "nom de guerre" - it comes from the two facts - 1. I was born in New Zealand, and 2. When playing online games I was often dead-meat due to poor skills/coordination etc (in short I sucked). Put the two together and you get kiwimeat.

There, wasn't nearly as bad as you were thinking was it?

As for finance, I've thought about it but dislike paying all that interest on the loan. There is also the higher insurance premiums (or so I've been told)

The only real sticking point at the moment, is my some what uncertain work situation which may or may not last much beyond this week with my current employer. Moreover, my better half has her mind set on a Holiday Home.

What colour 8 do you own?

msydd, isn't "evolution" from another Japanese manufacturer beginning with "M" :p

I'm just pleased your name didn't derive from rams or lambs !!

As for the priority list, once your work has sorted it self out, go the car not the holiday house but you are right , the insurance is marginaly higher with finance

Mine is Titanium Gray - and I love the colour althought I must admit the Winning Blue and Velocity Red are great too.

Good luck with the work thing , I hope it work out well ...\
