I noticed increased vibration in my April '04 car sometime before it hit 25K and Mazda replaced the mounts under warranty no questions asked when I raised it with them.

I've said in a number of threads that anyone with an older car who didn't get this looked at before warranty expired is asking for trouble. It may not have happened to every car but from what I've read in here and elsewhere it has been common enough to at least warrant a mandatory inspection during scheduled servicing.

I quite agree it's not a recall issue and your warranty won't answer once it's expired (like any sunset type contract) but there are avenues of redress under various consumer protection legislation. The difficulty is that the non-recoverable cost of pursuing such a claim probably isn't worth it given the cost of the fix.

I ended up paying $167 instead of $1300 for the repairs and modification. I feel that was a very satisfactory outcome.

In all my dealings with my Mazda dealer and Mazda Australia, I have approached them reasonably, and been treated in a reasonable matter. You won't hear any complaints from me. I am generally very satisfied with the performance and reliability of my RX-8.

I hope that in fairness, my reply is included in your report to consumer affairs.
Am seriously hopful your experience will be mine. Am taking my (vibrating) RX-8 to the dealership this coming MON (06AUG07) to get some work done. Will have the issue answered by the end of the day.

Although I can get the mounts for $135 each now, its the bracket that goes with it that Mazda put a seriously offensive price tag too. In fact, so offensive I dont even want to say.

So am praying that my car now 10 months out of warranty & serviced by the dealership can be dealt the same deal as yours.

Let us know how you go and who the dealer is - others may benefit.

RX-8 is up at Gosford mazda right now. Here waiting at a cafe for the service to be completed.

Got the "polished speech" routine from the dealer & the Mazda Australia customer help line. So I'm expecting the "screw-you" story with free smile attached from them when I return to pick up the car.

Here I was thinking Mazda Australia may be run by humans. How silly of me....

JAT1,
Hi,I have an 05 rx8 and have started to get a strange vibration at 3k rpm. I have asked them to look at it and they say it is my aftermarket exhaust. I took it to the exhaust place and they showed me that it isn't.Do you think I should ask them to check the engine mounts or does it sound like something else??

Mazda dealership called on SAT tolet me know the question on assistance with the engine mounts was knocked back from head office..

Nothing unexpected as Mazda Australia have a (shocking customer) reputation to protect.

Just curious now how LABRAT got them to go against the grain...........???

Anyone got a good price on that offensively over-priced bracket....??

Umm, nothing actually. Grand Prix Mazda Aspley (Q) did everything for me. I have had the car serviced there since new, and have had every update/recall done promptly. I even bought my replacement tyres there. The car is absolutely and totally unmodded. The car was 10 months out of warranty. They put in the request for Mazda Australia, and 1 1/2 weeks later they called back to say that they would pay 80% of the costs. It actually turned out I paid $168 out of an anticipated bill of $1300, so I didn't pay for any labour. Possibly Grand Prix picked that up. To anyone contemplating a Mazda in SEQ, I wouldn't go past Grand Prix.

I can only suggest that you refer to the other positive cases reported in this forum (perhaps taking the time to write a list), and ask your dealer to explain any disparities between your experience and those on the list.
