How often would you use the brake once you're out of inner suburbs?

 

On a different note, I got my rotor machined earlier this week as the brake is screeching madly. The guy informed me that there's only 1mm left of the minimum thickness allowed for my rotors (both front and back). Oh well... guess I'll be looking at new rotors soon. What rotors did you get? I'm thinking of RDA, cheap

 

And how many Track Days does that include?They're a bit harder than driving hard on the street.
Track days can see temps over 500 degrees.

They get a workout at track days, don't you worry about that. And the ceramic pads are very hard on rotors...apparently

 

Let's just say those behind me on the cruise down will be seeing red a lot.

 

Yep, my rears were down to 2mm left. Got them machined and will need to replace soon.

Front replacements are slotted RDA's, $232 each.

 

Are you sure your pads weren't replaced under warranty?

 

I am impressed with Project Mu. Great for trackdays and easy on the rotors. Hmmm, my rotors are rusty... think it needs a session at Sandown soon. Drawback with PMu pads is that it needs some heat before it starts to perform with eye popping stopping power.

Can't believe I have thrashed this car for 5 years and still going on strong.

 

Well, the MazdaSpeed pads did a good job yesterday. I seriously thrashed the thing and they pulled me up ok, time and time again. Nice progressive feel. Maybe not QUITE the performance of the red stuff's but more than adequate for a combination street and track pad.

I'd recommend them.

 

I'm keen to try some aftermarket pads. I've got my eye on the mu project HC+ pads. I'll have to save up though, I think they're pretty pricey but I've only heard good things about them. I'd really like a brake upgrade like the AP racing brake kit but that is serious cash.

 

I ran at Wakefield with a new set of Endless pads (worn in around town first, of course). They always managed to stop my hamfisted attempts to get around the fish hook too fast

They do however tend to squeal a bit under light braking, ie approaching trafic lights. Have started leaving the braking a bit later so I can apply them harder, stops the squeal.

 

What pads are you running atm Matt?

The AP kit is the goods but dear as poison and I doubt it'd drop more than a few tenths. The stock brakes are pretty damn good and it's a relatively light car after all.

 

I have no squeal at all...they must build that into the Endless pads so you wear them out faster...the name says it all - an oxymoron where pads are concerned!

 

The factory setup is what I am using. Factory pads and rotors (the same pads on the rear since I got the car 4 years ago actually).

I've heard that it is well worth doing so I will start up the secret car fund again I think..

 

Unless I meet a car in one of the two roundabouts in town I use the brakes once a day on a steep downhill from 90.

 

I have Endless pads and mine don't squeal.......what am I doing wrong.............

Nice to hear the Mazdaspeed pads held up ok it will be interesting to see how they wear over time............

Well, the pads stood up ok but found out today that my "machined to within a millimetre of their life" rear discs didn't.

I detected some repetitive noise on Sunday and had it looked at today, hoping it might just be a flat spotted tyre. Nope, one or both of the rear rotors have slightly warped. They are blue, indicating a lot of heat stress and the machined down thickness just wasn't up to the job.

My mechanic is a good bloke though and is only charging me for parts to replace them with slotted RDA's to match the fronts, which held up well despite their newness!

I knew the machined rotors wouldn't last long, so no harm done.

 

slotted rears got fitted last week while I was away.

sick of spending money on the revolvermobile atm, so the rear quarter panel damage will have to stay there a bit longer!

 

How did the rear quarter panel get damaged?
