Best Radar Detector

This probably only applies to Perth 8 owners (illegal other states) but which is the best radar detector to buy b/c they are pretty expensive and i want one that has good range of detection as im cruising the freeways.

cheers

Though not strictly speaking a radar detector, the Road Angel is worth looking at. It is really a GPS device that warns you when approaching known or fixed speed cameras, black spots, etc. However, it is no use as a guard against mobile or 'hidden' radar traps.

I am of the view that it is legal in all states but there is an argument available that it may breach the relevant traffic provisions in the major eastern states.

I thought the law was fairly clear. While owning a radar detector is not banned, using one is. See anti-detector laws

No, only to fixed units. No states require police setting up a temporary radar trap to sign post it and of course its a bit hard to signpost a mobile radar gun (e.g. highway patrol cars).

Yes Timbo, the law is fairly clear for radar detectors but as I said the Road Angel is not a radar detector - it does not detect the presence of a radar emitting device. Rather, it emits a warning when you are in a pre-determined location using GPS technology.

I cannot say more publicly - I'll PM you.

Road angel is a GPS warning system, but it is only as good as the database it has.

If there is a public forum on mobile sites and allow frequent updates, then it is worth buying.

That means people power against the little box with a camera lens.

VIC has a similar list .... although it was leaked by a police officer. VERY ACCURATE>>>

Why would radar detectors be different in Aus than anywhere else? Don't the cops use the same radar/laser bands?

on that note: www.radartest.com

Interesting. I knew about the fixed camera list - not about the mobile one - thanks.

...the bad news is, they tend to update the list in hindsight when they add a new location

Mobile Camera is easier to spot than masked cop car using the laser gun...

And radar detecter is useless to laser gun, since you get the signal... you already got caught speeding in their gun. Use a jammer in WA. Some company in the US has a shealth system that all the jammers and detectors are hidden.

Beltronics will work in Australia. I have done research but now it is useless to me since I am not allow to speed on public road - too expensive.

$200 can get me a track day :o
