I'm 30... but I'm curious as to what the younger members (below 25) do to be able to afford an 8.
Would you be able to PM your secrets bunchofluckybastards!!! D:D

I won my car through a competition.
Basically, what it was is the HSC. Higher School Certificate in NSW.
Rules are as follows...
UAI score of 90/100 = RX8!!
However, I myself scored only 78/100.
So the rules were kind of breeched.
But who cares, these people just love me! LOL

Well, I'm one of the older owners - 51 in September.

Maybe we should do average age by car colour, just to open up all the wounds at once!!

I see more older yellow RX8 drivers... :-)

I bought mine @ 33 and I got a black one.

With all these young drivers who "bought" their cars at 16, 18,17....etc, did you have enough change left for the insurance?

Yellow must be the colour of choice for the oldies. Because I drive a yellow RX8 I tend to notice them more and yes, there are some decrepit looking owners out there. The interesting thing is that few people in their 20s believe that an RX8 is a suitable form of transport for oldies. "That's not your car, is it???"

well, i had yellow for my last car, so i decied a change to blue and i was sick of people calling my car a taxi but i like yellow nonetheless. and i also think yellow cars are more suited for exotic type kind of cars, like lamborginis', rx7s, lotus elises...etc, just not the 8(too tall)

There's another yellow 8 just down the road from me, and sure enough the owner is also a grey haired guy. Apparently, he's already had a run in with the local traffic cop over his "spirited driving". Just what I need! I imagine that the cop won't expect two identical yellow RX8s propelled by grey-power, living with a couple of kilometers of each other, so will pay extra attention whenever I pass....

Cheers, BVD (another Chris )

who caress... all they need is third party so they protect others. and if they have the cash for it, they can get comprehensive.
Besides, I know a lot of young people earning wads of money. especially if they're in IT and are some what cluey

Colour wars again!!

I always thought that old blokes get yellow sports cars to compensate for their fading virility - i.e. "Look at me, I'm still here!!" :p

It used to be red but that became too common.

So come on you old blokes - what really motivated your colour choice? Personal preference or the need to be noticed?

[Sound of me settling back to wait for the anguished protestations of continued superhuman sexual activity]

AMG,
That's what dad's are for. I've had 3 accidents. 1 i was at fault.
Insurance covers only dad, the high excess on under age driver isn't a problem.
It's a small price to pay for, at worse, a big accident to cover.
As long as your not a daily driver of the vehicle.
One guy who hit into me refused to pay cause i wasnt a driver!
I was ready to punch on! But all good now.

CHEERS!

Absolutely not!

It's an eyesight thing. It's so that we can actually find the car in the morning when we're groping around the garage looking for something to drive. :p

Actually I do like being seen on the road, purely from a safety factor. I live in a country area with lots of overhanging trees and shaded areas. Some colours make the car blend into the background, especially in the winter. But not the yellow!

I'm not sure it's really an age thing, my very first car - bought at age 12 to drive round the farm, over 45 years ago - was yellow. And I've had several others since(including Morris Minor, Mercedes, Triumph and Peugot).

I've had most available car colours over the years, but I just liked the RX8 in yellow - it seemed to say "This car is for FUN"! :D

I'm 49 and thank goodness my 18 year old doesn't read this forum or he'd think he's eligible for an RX8 if he goes by RXP33D's criteria. He keeps hounding me to drive it as it is - but NO WAY, I've waited about 30 years to get a car I love!

Thanks BVD and Lock for responding in good spirit.

I guess one of the things you obtain with advanced years is the ability to make your excuses sound more plausible!! :p :p :D

And Lock, you have simply confirmed my opinion of how easy Qld girls are.

Well, I'm not boasting about my age, but I will boast about the HSC results of both my sons -- 98.6 and 98.45 -- for which I rewarded them both with a small 'loan' to buy cars. One has a 1989 626, and the other a 1990 Laser. No, they can't drive my 8 -- both still under 25! But they have other priorities, as did I at their age (although I did buy a Cooper S soon after getting my first real job)

29 For me too, however I have had my car for almost 2 years, so 27 when I bought it. I must be the exception to the rule of owning a yellow car and being under 50. :D

25 when I bought mine, or should I say leased mine!! And it is insured for drivers under 25 as my wife was 21 when we bought it. (Insurance only costs me $***) Wont disclose amount in order to protect all those parents out there who have told their kids that they cant drive it because the insurance that covers them is too expensive!!
