Not me... I never complain about fuel consumption. I also don't mind putting or topping off the oil level.

On that carbon cleaning exercise on Sunday... my fuel consumption was 16litres/100km average. This was going uphill on Mount Macedon and then downhill towards Woodend. Nice, tight and twisty in some bits and nice flowing bends as well. I had the car sitting above 7000 rpms during those 15 km run. I am usually averaging 12.5l/100.

If people wanted to get better fuel consumption... this is the wrong car. This car is meant to be driven. DRIVEN hard!.

Yeah I realise that the lancer could quite conceivably have been redlining whilst I wasn't. Yes, I know that peak power is delivered around 8000+rpm. However, I just "felt" as though between ~4000rpm and whatever I got the car to (maybe 8500rpm?) that I should have put *some* distance between us.

I just have mixed feelings sometimes. I remember once being quite satisfied when a skyline (gts presumeably) that I followed couldn't get away from me but then othertimes, like yesterday, I feel somewhat disappointed.

Capn,
Think you've been flamed! Not fair really since damn near everyone on this site has wished for a "bit more grunt" at one point or another. Dave & Hymee are working on it!
Sounds like you need a quick belt up to Cervantes, or York, or find some twisty bits, it'll make ya feel betta!
Mike...

(and being temporarily eightless, i've been tempted to the darkside.....but I'm keeping teh faith!)

Knew it was a 1.3 L, but never realised it sucked this much petrol and oil.....sometimes I think it was a mistake to buy this car, but then the pedal goes down, the face lights and out of the mouth comes the words .. 'oh baby!'

I agree with MissyK how different this car is!

In my opinion, people who don't complain about fuel/oil consumption, low rev grunt are ones who are "sportscar" enthusiast. I don't use my RX8 as my everyday car. I plan to use my RX8 for special events - trackdays, drivedays and on weekends for spirited driving in some of the nice scenic and twisty roads. Most of the kilometres in my car has been pretty hard and it has never faltered. Fuel consumption... what's that???

Sure this car guzzles fuel. It is a ROTARY.

I have been in cars more powerful than an RX8. They were quicker in a straightline, did OK in twisty roads. However, the driving lacked connection with car and driver. BTW, dragging someone is meaningless! Where is the sportscar in going straight? Any bozzo can go fast in a straightline. Obviously more power gives you quicker acceleration. Drag racing is like watching grass grow IMO.

You know, for those who regret or feels let down by their RX8 purchase. I suggest to go out on your favourite road(s) and let her open up. Drive to your limits. YOU need to be reminded what it feels like to "drive" your RX8 in anger.

If you are in VIC, head up to Lake Mountain. The road leading up or down is like a private track. This is the perfect time in the year to head up that route.

Well said, let's just say the 8 is a pretty good car for driving at the limits to hone your skill before you proceed to a faster car.

not to bash, but i doubt the majority of 8 owners could even use the 8 to it's full potential.

That statement goes for all cars... really

In fact the more expensive and more exotic the car is,,, the owner drives it futher away from its real potential.

Observation taken collectively on Ferrari and Porsche drivers ... some are really fast I have to say... but most aren't.

But I think most Lancer drivers push their until the tyres scream when they are going to a local milkbar.
