it comes with an input for the revers back up.. it is triggerd by your back up light circut. so you can plug any video camera in and it will turn on the input and show you what it sees when in reverse, you can also turn on that input when not in reverse. My friend calls it my Nascar cam

hello everyone...I bought the unit recently, and installed it in a few hours....and everything is working great! Thanks thew for walking me through the install, I got it working on the first time I started the car up !

I'll be posting an in depth DIY on the install so everyone can see it is easy to do, I actually had a lot of fun doing it and now my passengers thank me, and waiting around for someone isn't so bad anymore (I'm adding a xbox or carpc too )

And you were the one that was kinda worried about hacking into the Harness.
I think after you show the DIY more peeps will see just how easy and safe it is.

Yeah, cutting the video wires to the LCD screen is not all that scary.

I wanted to vote in your poll, Thew, but I didn't see an option for "already did it."

I mounted a camera I got off eBay just above my licence plate.
It took a 1-inch hole in the rear plastic and looks like it belongs there -- well, I did have to notch the top of the plate, but that's no biggie (at least to me).
It comes on automatically when I shift into reverse and doesn't block the licence plate light. I rigged the wiring to shut off the l/p light when I'm in reverse to get rid of lens flare at night.

Thew...is the kit really that easy to install? BTW...I have a Mazda3...is the walk thru pretty similar? Do you know of a place that would do it cheaply in the LA area? Thanks!

Anytime my garage here in SB out of the sun. I can show you what your doing and you can be the guy that does it.. Its a shame to pay someone to mess it up. Let me know i keep 1 svideo box on hand but they are moving fast now because of the package deal.

Also I can get anything else for your Mazda. even the factory ad on goddies.

Thew, I'm afriad I already know the answer to this, but let me see if I have this right. The kit you have with the PIE adaptor and everything looks cool, but does it use use the CD-Changer Control input? The reason I ask is because I'm going to buy a Neo Ion for my iPod to interface to my HU and it uses the Cd changer input. If I already have that in place, can the iPod/Neo play nice with the PIE adaptor that comes with the AV Electronics setup?

The Neo Ion (rebadged Denison Icelink w/Pie I'll explain) Mazdaparts was going to sell but the interface is problematic, it freezes the HU and requires u to turn off the power to the car and restart...in fact I personally was going to get it for my car when I decided I'll just save my money and put it towards modding a used xbox.

There is a way to splice into the Neo Ion's cable to get the Stereo signal, but it is a pain, I'd do it though if I had to.

One thing to know is that the Neo Ion uses the Pie box. What you are actually buying is the Neo Ion for the Alpine M-bus connector then it connects to the Pie box (neo rebadges this and sells it as a package). On some of the pie units that come with it are RCA inputs but they have been deactivated by Neo.

If you can the best thing you could do is get just the pie, use the aux in and the avswitcher, and a remote control for your ipod that you mount in the center console near the shifter (or on top of the console if u don't want to dremel it)...your right hand is far more free than your left.

But it is up to you, the Neo Ion as a concept is cool, I wish it worked and displayed track information and text but sadly it doesn't. For the price and hassle I couldn't swallow it.

If your heart is set on the Ion then there is a way you can get them all to place nice I'm sure...a switch could be used between the PIE and the Neo's hardware.

Finally if u haven't seen it yet check out the DIY I did (link in Signature) for the avelectronics switcher, you may have seen it already...that might push you for the video since it really is awesome

I'm definitley going to get the AV video, I already bought the PS2 in preparation. My iPod is on the way and I really want to be able to use the steering and head unit controls that the Neo offers. I really want to get both systems to work to their full potential though. I saw a "bargain" version of video adaptor. This is prolly the way I'll go because I can't ever see wanting a backup camera or a gajillion monitors all over the place enough to actually buy those things. To me the full blown Video solution looks sweet, but would it be overkill for sure. Nice DIY btw, Magellen. If you do one for the bargain AV, I will use it for sure. Although the one you did already is adaptable enough, I think.

did u see the bargain version on Mazdaparts? it has one input and then a second backup cam input.

http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...000-1128838719

The DIY will be the same just a few less inputs and outputs, no big deal...I want to get the bargain system for my girlfriend's Mazda3 with Nav she'd love it.
