I too installed mine this past weekend (thanks MazdaParts), and am really happy with it. The car to me sounds a lot beefier when you rev, and it feels to accelerate much quicker to 70 then before.

Installation took a total of 2 hours for me and a friend since we had never done this before and made sure we read and re-read the directions to ensure nothing got screwed up. The installation process per directions is very simple and straight forward. The REVI dropped in perfectly and met up with the RAM with no problem. The seal between these two is very tight and had no leaks that I could detect. I highly recommend this as a first mod for others looking to get something more out of their 8.

 

Who here has installed this on an AT. And does it help with the slow accel times?

 

dang look at all the grey hair i have! Well the old gas gauge is definitly slowing down. Its a good mod.

oh yea everyone if yall dont know it, the speed source guys are running a motec on their cars. The settings are very secreative after 500+dyno runs. No actual h/p figues but the big bore cars where not pulling them by that much.

I have it on my AT and it responds great. Anytime you free up air flow you will get better response.

Does the ram air duct interfer with the intercooler on the greddy kit in anyway?

 

Can someone do a before and after dyno for us, that would be cool to see actual gains.

 

I might be doing a dyno this end of August. I have a baseline stock dyno last Feb and I don't have much modifications right now.

 

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't an intercooler part of a turbo system which is an air intake system itself.

I am quite certain that a NA intake, even with the RB Ram Duct is totally replaced by any mechanical turbo or supercharger system.

 

You would need a portable dyno that you could mount on a flat bed truck, then drive the truck down the highway at breakneck speeds to get the full effect of the duct on the dyno.

 

^^yep, a stationary car and a fan will not do a lot for testing this duct. Everyone who has it has said that most of the difference was felt at speed.

 

Guess that's why my 0-90 runs were so much fun after the install last week. :D

i cant hear anything from the intake?......

 

It's a low growl that comes on at about 5000 rpm or so. You can really hear it in the first video when I just rev it while coasting. This video btw was with the camera side window closed and the driver's open. If you have an exhaust already you probably won't notice much intake noise over it.

oh yeah, forgot to report in on first tank with the revi/cold air duct

ran 240 miles, filled up with 12.5 gallons, which is about 19.5mpg

not too bad considering this includes heavy A/C use AND a unusually heavy right foot :D :D :D

i'm gonna try to drive 'normally' for this fresh tank and see if mileage improves, it's gonna be really hard not to hit the gas pedal hard though! :D

 

Thanks for the reply, Im new to the conceptl of forced induction. I thought that it replaced the regular intake but i wasn't for sure.

Has anyone recorded intake air temp - with a scanner like Harrison's CANScan - before and after installing the REVi and Ram intake? I'm waiting for my intake kit to arrive and have been recording intake temp and air flow to do just such a comparison. What has surprised me is just how hot the intake temp has been running. With outside air temp of 93 degrees the scanner is recording intake temps of 116 to 120 degrees. I find it hard to believe there is a nearly thirty degree raise in such a short distance of the intake before the temp probe.

 

I was 13 degrees above ambient before REVi, and now I am about 6 degrees above. Keep in mind, that I live in the Pacific Northwest. This morning it was only 50 degrees outside. The ambient probe is just under the front crash bar, and the intake probe is part of the MAF sensor.

 

Will know tomorrow if it gives a bit more power....

I hate to tell you guys but we all are wasting our money the computer takes the hp gains in about a week i did some before and after dyno pulls and it all went down the drain .

 

Modena......those are some really great pictures of the ram install. They will help me a bunch in doing my install in the next week or so. Thanks for sharing the pics. The other project pics are interesting as well...
