Most folks seem to agree that TCW III should be avoided. Yet many still praise and encourage Royal Purple as a premix. It says 2-CYCLE TCW III right on the label. What makes it OK?

24 pages is weak but this particular thread is pretty light on info... so yeah, what Brettus said ==^

and does anyone know of any ill effect it will have on a stock cat? I would assume our cats where designed for the high heat and small amount the omp puts in. who has the highest mileage stock cat or should I say who has the highest premix mileage cat?

^ It seems Idemitsu (apparently hard to find) is the premix of choice but Lucas UCL (though not a real premix) should work well for anyone not racing on the tracks.

Lucas UCL is also used by lots of other folks not driving rotaries (lots of converts and those who swear by it.. google it!) and is different from the other gas/oil additives in the market in that it contains no solvents that can do nasty things in cars. Also because of others using this, we probably won't get as many unusual responses from people when we put a bottle of what looks like vegetable oil in our gas tanks while filling up. I'm using a 8oz. plastic container of Mott's Apple Juice and UCL looks just like the stuff you drink!

Hi guys I'm new to this pre mix stuff but when I use it in my car it runs dam good. I got some Pettit Racing Pre-mix and put some in today when I toped off my tank. After I shook up the bottle and pured it in I looked inside and this is what I seen at the bottom. Its also at the bottom of ever one of my bottles.

So my question is now, Is this normal?
Thank you for your time,
-Gil

Uhh, I don't know if its "normal", but I wouldn't deliberately put anything into my tank that can settle out like that.
Plus, the Pettit marking for that stuff gives me pause.

Stick to the Idemitsu. The Mazda race teams all use it, it was designed for this purpose, it comes from an actual oil manufacturer, not a speed shop and its cost effective.

I'll give up my source (since I don't have an appropriate trench coat to wear when I'm dealing on a corner):

www.RX7World.com

Its a lot more pricey than Mazdatrix, but you can't drive an '8 without the stuff, so stock up until Ernst runs out.

UCL is mineral oil.

On the Rx7World link that Mazda Maniac posted i noticed there was also Idemitsu Racing Rotary Fuel Lube (Premix) - Synthetic Blend is there any benefits to this over the 10w30 that he posted or any reason not to use this?

Oops! Wrong link. It should have been to the "Fuel Lube"
NEVER pre-mix with motor oil!

I'll go back and fix that!

This is essentially what the stock OMP system does, except it's dirty oil to boot...

Or do you mean it could adversely affect the fuel system somehow?

The OE system is a compromise and a bad one at that. That is part of the reason why pre-mix is a good idea and why people are starting to use an OMP adapter and an outside reservoir.

That said, motor oil doesn't dissolve into gas that way the 2-cycle stuff does and will gum everything up. Only use oil that is meant to be directly mixed with fuel.

if there is something wrong with a batch of oil from Pettit they will make it right--rest assure.
I always use a full synthetic pre mix. Currently using Moble one 2T premix for racing motocycles. I run one oz a gallon--damn the fuel pump, damn the omp(never trusted that thing)--car has ran the best it ever has.
course all that is about to change

What color is the Pettit oil? To me those deposits look like some sort of coloring substance...

Still trying to figure out why Royal Purple TCW III is a generally accepted choice for premix. Even some people who claim TCW III is not good to use, list Royal Purple as a good premix option OR actually use it themselves. I'm not asking if it is a good product line or not (I use RP fluids)...I just want to know what makes it good enough to draw a general exception to the "Don't use TCW III as a premix" rule!?! Is it just the good RP name?...Is there something in RP (or not in it) that is formulated in other TCW III that makes RP better?

People love RP because they make good gear oil. Maybe they just buy the premix stuff and figure it should be good as well?

I figure it is probably a quality product just like the rest of the Royal Purple line, but just probably not the best for this application. I was using Lucas and it is about gone and I'm looking for a better premix option. I have a bottle of RP TCW III, I ordered with all my gear and engine oil awhile back, but if no one here has any more info. as to why it is not just another TCW III (just from a quality company), I think I'm gonna try and get hold of some Idemitsu instead.

Good luck with the Idemitsu. I've had my case on order since the beginning of September. It was supposed to ship on October 1, then it was pushed back to the 3rd week in October. Still no word. I'm on my last 4oz of Lucas and I'm not going to use it anymore. Would sure like to get my Idemitsu...
