RX8 with turbo! =/

So by me there is a VR RX8, 21k miles, and $16,900. This is an EXTREMELY good price for an RX8 in my area, New Hampshire. The catch is, it has a turbo on it, and some Greddy eletronic kit the guy mentioned which has the CEL constantly up. Appearantly it runs well, (who knows), but would it even be worth buying it if everything is fine and there are no problems with the car?

there might already be a lot of problems with it. You should do some searching on this forum about problems with a greddy kit. If it were me, I wouldn't do it.

To me it seems like one of those "too good to be true" scenarios. Whoever put the turbo on had the intention of maybe keeping it a while? But it only has 21k miles and it's an 2004, who knows. =/

alot of members here with the greddy kit put alot of time and money into there's, mainly a different control computer, tubing, and the needed extras in order to tune it properly. You might be better buying a non turbo one for around the same price and THEN turbo it yourself if you want. That way you know where the engine started from and you do not have an rx8 engine that was abused or improperly tuned to begin with.

A used rx8 tends to sell for more without a turbo kit, so buying a 'stock' rx8 doesn't mean it wasn't turbocharged before.. you really have no way of knowing if they restored the few parts that were cut (underbody tray mostly).

anyway, if the car is sound, you can sell the greddy kit for about 2k, and part out the other misc items that are installed on your car.

Think it depends on how mechanically mined you are - or are wanting to be .
If you are not - don't touch it .
If you are - it could be a bargain ....

if its mechanically sound then buy it and sell the turbo kit. if you sell it for 2k-ish then the rx8=14k-ish

The rims are forged from the exact steel used to construct the city of Ironforge...

Haha i really don't know, i haven't seen the car in person yet, i might go see it soon, but so far this deal doesn't really interest me...

find out if the guy is on the board, and look for his old posts. the car may have had issues in the past, and the threads still might be around.

Honestly tho, do your research before jumping in the FI world.

Can't tell much from your original post, but if he has an EManage he shouldnt have a CEL. If you really want the car, take it to a dealer and have them pull the codes to see what the CEL is for. A compression test might also be a good idea

personally i wouldnt buy a used rx8 with turbo. id rather buy an NA one and turbo it myself, that way there wont be skeletons in the closet coming to haunt you.

Worst case scenario is he detonated the car a bunch of times, and now is trying to dump it. If thats the case and your motor blows, its only $3500 for a replacement, and $0 for labor if you can put it in on your own. Not bad, seeing how cheap the car is. The fact that he's selling it so cheap does throw up a big red flag tho

Look first... sounds like a good deal. I've had no problems with my greddy install.

think about it this way....

WHY IS HE SELLING IT? it is very likely that the car is very problematic and he is trying to unload his problems on you.

I know that car! I looked at it a few weeks ago, (just outside of Concord, at a used car dealer, right?) and I wouldn't touch it.

Stop being gay about it, the car is turbo charged. instead think about it this way, the guy turbo charged the car, wasnt done paying for it, lost his job had no choice but to give it back, or maybe he had a kid on the way and couldnt keep it cause he had to get married and start a family. maybe hes mother needed an opened heart operation done and the only way to get the money was selling the car.

i wish i would run into something like that before. if the warranty i voided so what?? Mazda warranty suck. even the extended one they sell you for 3000 dollars sucks.

I preferred to think of it as the guy turbo charged it but didn't know what he was doing. The engine won't last more than a few hundred, maybe a thousand, miles before blowing up. I buy cars to drive them, not to repair other people's f*** ups. 16k for a car that will need a $3500 engine replacement in a month and who-knows-how-many other repairs is not my idea of a good purchase. Not when I can get an unmodded one for a very little bit more money with a lot fewer miles on it, (which is exactly what I did,) and can mod it as I want without worrying about "did the last guy know what he was doing?"

Well it is being sold at a *dealership* in Chichester, and i believe with the price they want for it, $16,900, they wont come up even for the blue book value here in New Hampshire, nothing adds up correctly, i think it definitely has something wrong with it.
