my 19x8.5 wheels weigh 2lbs less than OE wheels. My 255/19/35 tires weigh 2lbs less then the RE40's that came with the 18" OE wheels. 4lbs savings per corner. In addition my 19" wheel/tire combo is nearly the same size as the stock wheel/tire combo.
Exactly, until somebody weighs the wheels, we actually have no idea if they are heavier.
Since the thread discusses wheel weights for acceleration, something not mentioned is that it's not just about gross wheel weight. Weight distribution over the radius of the wheel plays part in it too.
For example, given 2 sets of wheels with the same wheel weights, the set of wheels with more weight towards the center and less weight toward the perimeter will provide better acceleration but less momentum damping.
This same principle applies to flywheels for throttle response.
