finally ordered my tein s springs!

After debating for the last few weeks, i finally gave in and ordered them. I actually ended up having a dream about those and the racing beat ones, and the tein ones won in my dream. haha. All i've heard is really great things about them...

for all of you who do have them that i haven't talked to yet--please give me your opinon on them. I could just do a thread search and look--but i'd rather have fresh opinons on them.

How long was it until you noticed the settled some too? and how off was the alignment and such? also, when should i get my alingment re-done after putting these one?

Thanks ya'll

mine have been great, minor mod that makes a big difference. I haven't gotten mine aligned yet but the car doesn't feel squirly or pull to the r/l so I'm not too worried. (still needs to be done though as it's been almost a month since they were ptu in) Mine have settled quite a bit since the first week or so I had them, when they were first put on the car barely looked dropped, now I park next to a stock one and my roofline is noticably lower. The stance is pretty close to perfect, at least for everyday driving, it seemed the other springs were either too low or not low enough and I wanted a drop along with the stiffer spring rate, not just the spring rate with little difference in stance. The only thing I would consider to be a better alternative would be coilovers, but some of us don't have the $$$ to spend on those and never go to a track so I got springs instead

I say about 500-700 miles till they settle in.and the sag is minimal so good choice.
alignment is a very good idea and suggest to get aligment in a week

what i have done in the past with my car, and friends car that get suspension work is this. Put the springs on and go to tires plus (or similar tire shop) but the 1 yr (or similar) allignment. Do this as soon as you can after the spring install. In a few hundred miles....go back and get it re-done. Its free for 1 year.

I know that places like this arnt the best for the allignment, but its cheap and they can get it close to spec. The change in ride hight the springs provide wont be much so the allignment shouldnt be far off (just form you pulling them out and putting them back in)

When I went with the coil-over setup on the miata (i will be doing the same for the 8, cause i dont like to 'half' do things and bolt spring to stock shocks) i went to a shop that could dial in the exact allignment I wanted, it was about 100 bucks, but it improved my time on track quite a bit. You dont need anything that radical on a mostly street driven car with aftermarket springs. A tire shop should be fine.

doh forgot to say, congrats and will you have them on in time for the rotary meet? how much is the avg drop with them, I think the 8 looks best about 1 inch lower than stock.

morgan I hope you dont feel like i am raining on your parade with my above post and the post about the car washing......i re-read my post and feel like all I do is poop on whatever your talking about.....im totaly not that kind of person, thats just the opinion i had on the matter. Im sure it will look good, and be an improvement over the stock setup! enjoy

and

happy motoring!

Not trying to hijack this thread, honest.

But, I'm getting my Eibach's installed tomorrow. I called a couple places (local shops) and the prices are all pretty close (Avg. $250-$275). What isn't close is the time estimate. I've had estimates ranging from 2hrs to 6hrs for the entire job (front & rear). The guy doing mine is on the low end.....2-2.5hrs. Is this realistic?

idk how easy/hard it is on rx8's...but my friends who are also doing mine, have done RSX's and S2Ks and Jettas. It's taken maybe 4 hours total for front and back...but keep in mind we're just a group of car people with all the right tools. So i dont know why that wouldn't be realistic

of all the suspensions ive done (miata, rx7, rx8, rsx, civic, s2k, wrx, evo, eclipse, GTI...ect ect) It takes about 4 hrs for 2 people to do a spring swap, from the time you jack up the car till the time your ready to test drive it....were usualy working on it for 5 hrs, with a 1hr break in the middle (front/back) for snacks and whatnot.

If your doing a full coil-over setup it takes even less time since you just unbolt the old stuff and pop in the new stuff (no need to compress/uncompress the springs, ect ect.

The only tools you really need are :

jack, jack stands (4 so you can get the whole car off the ground is best, but 2 so you can do the front then the back is also fine) a good socket set. some allen wrenches (sway bars on some cars) some open ended wrenches, spring compressors (free rental at autozone). A braker bar is also helpful.

I've had my tein s techs on for quite some time now and I couldn't be more satisfied with them.

Mine seemed to stop getting lower by about 3-4 weeks.

The alignment did not FEEL off and the car did not pull to the left or right, but after about 4 weeks I went to get it aligned just to be on the safe side. I'd say get an alignment now less then 3 weeks and no more than 3 months after you put the springs on.
