Wierd rattling noise at high rpm while traveling..

Hi everyone, first post and thread here! i picked up my 06 rx8 yesterday and today i noticed this wierd noise coming from the front passenger side of the car while pushing the car to higher RPMs...

i dont believe this is normal, does have any idea what could cause this? the car still has a LITTLE bit of waranty left... so i hope i can get this problem fixed before waranty expires

Its the rattles in a can sound or marbles in a blinder sound. Everone gets it from time to time I even get it. I read on here back in 2003 by ZOOM44 talking about the exhaust ports.

Take it back to the dealer and replicate the noise for them.
I have no clue, because of the lack of information you supplied.

Enlighten us with as much input as possible.

Yeah i think that last port sort of gets gummed up when u dont' use it alot with carbon so redlining it should keep that cleared up!!!

Hey guys, same issue here it sounds like. My Dad just got a new 09 R3 and I was pushing it up near the redline and I heard an awful sound exactly like marbles in a blender. I very quickly let off and dared to take it back up in RPMs once more to see if it would replicate, which it did. It seems to only occur about 7K+. Also, it stays until red line and occurs when the car is in and out of gear, and both rolling and stationary.

You think the gummed up ports are to blame there, or SDAIS (whatever that is)? Car has just 1000 miles on it and my Dad has owned it since it rolled off the ship. No mods to speak of, past the standard R3 package equipment.

Thumbs up

Search for M.I.A.C. (marbles in a can). The problem most likely comes from the coolant rushing through the heater core, wicth is behind the glove compartement. Have the dealer install a coolant restrictor valve. It should fix the problem. Part number F10061E09

I am having this problem too! The noise is very inconsistent and only occures when you accelerate. I have changed the wires, plugs, and coils and it still does this. I have read in some places people have said to change out the knock sensor but I'm not confident this will cure the problem. I even brought the car to Mazda and they could not tell me what the problem could be. Any advice would be great!

Please give us some more info... What mods have you got?...How long have you had it?... Have you ever done a de-carbon cleaner? What octane are you running 87-reg or 91-prem? Is it hammering metal on metal sound? Worse when it's hot? What kind of driving does it get?

Question (m.i.c)

No specific mods on the vehicle. I always use premium, always. Only thing special I have in the car is a K/N air filter but I have had for a couple of years now and yes I have cleaned it too. The sound is suttle at times, almost like a rattling. I did notice that the noise is more noticable in cooler weather bit again nothing consistent. I origanlly thought my engine was dying and I took it to Mazda and they said engine was fine and they too could not figure out the problem that I was having. I have yet to do a full de-carbon cleaning (seafoam). I did put a little in the gas tank but made no difference. Is it possible the sound I am hearing is the coolant boiling?? If so, I should probably change out the old coolant now too???

yes its air in the coolant flowing through the heater core. theres a tsb around that describes the transition form the core to the piping as having a lip/bur or somesuch that the air bubbles pop over as they are circulating.

flush fill and burp it

Isn't there also a retrofit TSB for a heater core restrictor insert, to help alleviate this sound?

Question Mic

That is the wierdest thing... I would have never suspected the coolant. I will also look for through the service bulletins and see what I can dig up too. Now this is going to sound really dumb so please excuse my lack of knowledge but how does one "burp" the car? Flushing the coolant should be easy... Thanks for the help!! :-D

UPDATE: Burping the car did not do the trick... So I brought to Mobile Lube Express place and had them "flush" the old coolant and add new stuff. Well, after all that I'm still getting this noise!!! IS it possible that it could be not be coolant and maybe it's the shutter valve?? Car generated a code of 2070 but since then I have added Sea-foam to the gas tank, oil case, and had it run through the vacuum lines. Code has since turned off... Kinda at loss on what to do next... I even brought it to Mazda a few months back and they were baffled too. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
