viewing dvds with factory nav system
we all know that the 8 is a car loaded with potential. my thoughts are that without any mods or spending any $, the nav system should be able to play dvd video format, but has been programed not to for safety reasons.
would some of you tech guys give me some input. there is always a cheat code somewhere or a secret something that no one knows about. i really really would love to watch dvds in my car i just need some help figuring out how

just because the navi runs off a dvd drive doesn't mean it has a mpeg decoder.
to play dvds on your navi, you need an external unit to hack into the display, then something to play dvds, such as a portable dvd player or a sony playstation2.
It will run you $500-$700 for the unit to get into your navi display, then $100-300 for a dvd player.

guess what? all you guys are exactly right.
i did some research and found out that i can purchase a convertor that would hack into the nav screen so that dvds could be viewed. that device runs around $300. plus i would have to get an additional dvd player and possible a power invertor if i was to use a 110v player. if i was to do all that, then there would be an audio issue, since the nav system only is wired to one speaker in the car.
all that not to mention that there is no guarentee my nav system will run right or be covered under warranty after modification.
