Subs not quite right...

Ok I got the box into the car, the RCA's are running off a David Navonne Engineering line out converter, hooked up to the right ear speaker. It is a quality unit, I used it in my Nissan SE-R. The subs came out of that system as well, and the amplifier, an 800w Crunch is powering the setup. Since it is installed, I noticed that it really isnt hitting the low bass at all, its doing alot very light work, and you can barely feel anything. I had pretty much the same setup in my nissan, and my chest felt like I was getting CPR. Anyone have any idea why its so weak? I have the power almost all the way up on the amp...

I'm not an expert...but the low end is turned up on the EQ on your head unit, right? Is there a crossover built into the amp that's set incorrectly? Maybe its switch got bumped during the swap.

Not to make you sound foolish...sometimes even the best overlook the simple things.

Well this is the first sub that has a variable filter on the High Pass Filter. I honestly dont recognize any of the adjustments. Yes it has an internal crossover. Dialing it in is something I havent quite nailed. None of the controls I am used to are there, replaced by all kinds of different ones... I am no expert so dont worry about how foolish it makes me look. I dont mind looking dumb if the problem gets fixed...

Why are you not using left and right inputs?

you mean why am I not using both speakers? Because it was too much of a pain. to wire up at the time. And I haven't noticed a big enough difference between mono and stereo to bother with it.

let me guess. You have the Bose head unit, and you tapped before the Bose amplifier. Right?

Also, what sort of stuff is on the high pass? can i get a photo of it or something?

Actually I tapped right before the speaker. So I am pretty sure its after. I'll take a picture of the all the adjustments in a little bit, I am cleaning up the house right now.

ok heres how its set...

1. is set high, from what I can tell thats the gain, although its labelled differently.
2. is set high as well.
3. is very very low, almost all the way low.
4. is about 3/4 turned

I usually manage ok dialing in my own setup, but all the adjusters on this amp are numbers, not labels, I'm still relatively noob at tuning it for results..

Want results, real results. Ditch the LOC and get a proper interface adaptor to bring your sub to life. Audio Control LC6i + bass remote or JL Audio Cleansweep is what you need.

Treat your 8 like your previous car and you will be dissappointed in the results ()as you are posting). Treat it as something new and do it right, you will be impressed.

yeah. I second a decent line converter designed to take a low level differential input.

I'd get a cleansweep, and tap in before the bose amp. It will be well worth your while, and gives you a base for future upgrades.

Well I am considering getting away from audio entirely, and money isnt ready available at the moment (I got laid off from the garage I was working at, not enough work on hand) but I have been thinking about going into more performance. I tweaked it a bit more and got a little better results, but still not up to snuff. I am not really sure what to do right now though. Maybe if I get another job soon enough I'll do everything

I have a 12" sub in sealed box now. I tried a ported box too, and I tried the sealed box in different positions in the trunk, but I don't find the real fine sub sounding. I found the best sounding when my trunk is full of packages, and the sub is positioned to the rear of the car, behind the rear seats. ???

Ensure your crossover is set to low-pass at roughly 100Hz. If the line output converter you're using is adjustable (and they pretty much all are these days), ensure that it is turned up. With music playing, turn the adjustment **** all the way in both directions. Maybe you have it on min thinking it's maxed out. I've actually had a LOC where one **** was clockwise to increase and the other was counterclockwise. Dead serious.

Have any friends who are HONESTLY knowledgeable about car audio? Often helps to have another pair of eyes on the situation.

I have a friend who used to be a professional installer, and has one of the best quality setups in the country running in his Civic (not a ricer, really well done car) I wasnt able to get him away from work to check it out. I took it out altogether, because the subs actually made the rest sound worse, the bass was just terrible, and no matter how much I played with it, it wasnt getting right. I am gonna keep the stuff on hand, and when I have enough money to replace all of the equipment, including speakers, and HU, and if that Metra Kit ever actually hits mainstream, I will put them back in. At the earliest a year. I did notice a drop in milage, whether it was a weight thing, or if it was constantly pushing the alternator to work harder idk, but whatever it was, I had to take it out. I appreciate the input, maybe someone else can use the info
