It is not worth the work. Honestly, newer navigation systems are much cheaper and better (Traffic info, etc) than the Mazda one. I would just get a separate navigation or just get the Mazda nav hood and replace it with a tablet. This is easier/cheaper than the Mazda solution and it will provide a lot more functionality.

Hi Guys i just purchased a 2003 Rx-8 and was wondering if i could get a Navi hood and put it in, everywhere i have looked says compatible with Rx-8 2004's and up. surely it wouldn't matter would it.

Sorry, I'm considering placing a 7" galaxy tablet in the navi hood so I can get the motorized center console. But just not clear on whether it will fit in a 03 model. I probably should have been more articulate with my question.
So the end state would be having the navi with a tablet in a 2003 rx-8. Not the stock navi.

In case you hadn't seen the other car tablet thread...
I just installed a Galaxy Tab 2 in the Nav hood and it indeed fits well. Of course, you'll need to trim/cut quite a bit of plastic inside the hood. Very happy with the result!
That car tablet thread is not mine, but it gives a lot of great info about the install: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-int...pleted-239266/
