Radio removal..

Radio removal..
Yes, I searched and found that great guide at http://whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/.
I found that super secret 10mm bolt and got it out. However, I cannot for the life of me get the radio to pop forward. Yes, I also did remove the two bolts behind the ashtray...
I can get the bottom half of the console to pop forward but the top half is stuck as if something is still holding it on there..
Grrr, I put alot of force into it.. maybe not enough? but I didn't want to go cracking the thing in half or breaking clips..
Any pointers?

ya seriously, that is what you have to do.
Just get a good grip on it and pull. As long as you have the hidden bolt removed it will come out. I was like you when i did it and was trying to baby it. It was freezing when i did it though and my habds were getting ripped up. So i put on a pair of grippy gloves and just yanked. it worked. Good luck.
The fun part about that hidden bolt is putting it back in took me a bit cuz i didnt want to lose the bolt. just tape the bolt somewhat lightly to your socket and when it gets a lil tight, just pull the socket off then tighten.

My bet is that you don't have the right 10mm bolt out. There are three up there and it is the one you can't see that you need. I did the same thing the first time I pulled the stereo out.

If you are sure the 10mm bolt is out and it is the right one, the best thing to do is remove the glovebox, then reach in a push the radio out from the back. That way there isn't a risk of pulling on the wrong thing or breaking any clips.
I've found this to be much easier than pulling on it from the bottom. If you push from the back, you will be able to apply even pressure and it should come out pretty easily (assuming its the right bolt). There is also alot less of a risk of scratching the piano black radio face since you won't need to touch it. I would also put some sort of a towel on the shifter since the threads will easily damage the radio face.

yeah, I definitely got that 10mm bolt.. at first I got one of the two 13mm bolts that are there.. but then I felt carefully there was actually that 10mm to remove.
i'll try giving it more force in the morning and see if it comes out, ill also try the glovebox thing.

I got it out.. but I should have listened to what someone else said.. when I got it out it jerked forward into my unsheathed shifter and scratched up the front faceplate
Oh well.. its out.. on another note the freaking DICE Integration kit screwed up my iPhone..

Deals on wheels
My only suggestions is to use a lot of little jerks motion to pull it out.. i have better luck with that and it doesn't feel like i'm going to break the thing - oh andUSE SOMETHING TO COVER THE SHIFTER LEVER BEFORE YOU START TO PULL THE HEAD UNIT OUT OR YOU WILL SCRATCH IT!! better late than never sorry man

so my iPhone is COMPLETELY toast.. I read online about it and it seems common with fm transmitters and these sort of integration systems.. DO NOT USE YOUR IPHONE WITH THIS KIT. iPhone is completely bricked, won't go on at all after going off with a blinking screen and losing signal, etc.

Sounds like you removed the wrong 10mm bolt. If you could see the bolts easily then you did the wrong ones. Look further up and to the right of those two bolts. BTW...put those bolts back in as I don't know what they are actually attached to.

^ what he said
I removed the glove box and pushed the headunit from the back also. That seemed to work the best. Be careful though, there's been plenty of people who snapped their front plate.

Only if you put the factory head unit back in. You can rewire the hand controls to work with non-factory systems though...you just have to get the hand control module.
