...for making 8" adaptor plates. Speakers are Polk RC80i 8" 2-way.
Sounded GREAT in the house. Now to fit them in the doors.

No. I have an old Alpine 50x4 in the car until I finish my tube amps. The stock Bose door amps probably won't do much driving an 8-ohm speaker though. You could try it. It won't hurt the amp. You can even try bypassing it and just letting the rear amp drive them.
I have the Polks mounted but still have to make the new crossover PCB which will mount in the old amp location. In the mean time I slapped a 3.3uf cap on the tweeter just to try it. It sounds really good. Bass is as good or better then the Bose 9" but the mids are MUCH better. I actually have imaging in the mid-bass range.
There is plenty of room behind the magnet. This isn't a shallow speaker either. The door skin also clears it. It's a PERFECT fit using the old 9" as adaptors. I can't emphasize enough how well they fit in there.

These
Got the crossover boards done. The ceiling speaker has a large PCB that could be used behind the speaker (there is room) but I decided to make my own boards to mount them where the old door amps were. Results? GREAT. The upper-mids aren't all mushed up now that the full crossover is in place. These, along with the door tweeter, produce great breath to strings and such a full lower-midrange. Bass is good too but I'll have these high-passed at about 80~100hz. This combination sounds well balanced with the radio's bass/treble controls both at 0. My door tweeters are crossed at ~9k (4.7uf/4-ohm) and are a 1" kevlar dome type with neodymium magnet.
EDIT - I just noticed the input polarity is backwards. o.O

Like all car speakers, imaging is crap unless your sitting in the middle of the car. :P If you lean your head over to the middle it's amazing. It even sounds like the center channel is on but it's disabled. That's good imaging.
In my opinion, anyone throwing in a $500 headunit and $400 aftermarket speakers and then says it sounds good is wrong in any case unless they have a $500 amp and a $600 DSP in between. I consider myself an Audiophile though and I'm very picky when it comes to sound. If you can close your eyes and point to a speaker, you screwed it up.
I wound up adjusting my door tweeters a bit. I added a 5.1R series resistor to quiet them about 4db and changed the cap from a 4.7uf to a 3.3uf. Then put a 2.2uf in parallel with the 5.1R to bring the upper highs up but all I'm doing is EQ-ing at this point. I need to change my rears now. I thought sounded 'ok' but now, since I can a/b between front and rears, I hear how bad they really are.
If I can find a camera with a good mike I'll record it but so far both of mine can't record audio worth a damn.

I used to be like that. But after years of installing professionally, I just don't care about my personal vehicle anymore. I sold the 8 and bought an old Ford Ranger. It's got aftermarket audio in it, but nothing special. Though I miss the 8, I don't regret selling it in the least.

Here's a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0NGp...ature=youtu.be It's just audio. Song is "Adagio for Tron".
I suggest you use some quality headphones.
My subs clipped the mics hard from about 2:30 to 3:05. Sorry about that. I'll try and take another one with the subs turned down. It was recorded with one of those cheap handheld "HD" recorders but it did an ok job except for a lot of hiss. That hiss isn't in the car. Aside from that this almost sounds like the original recording but it's not. This was taken in the car, doors closed, camera sitting on the center console. Sounds like a theater in there.
This one is a little better. Subs turned way down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltziA...ature=youtu.be

Na just razzin' ya. Never been to SQ. Is it all opinion based or do they break out the test equipment and do sweeps?
Now I'm shopping for a DSP or going to make a circuit for some phase correction.
