Wahtr is the best setup for re-programming the Factory ECU

Has anyone actually purchased the Mazda factory OEM ECU programming tool/software?

I'd like to be able to tinker with ECU programming, but I don't want to lose other fuctionality of the factory ECU. I was thinking I could do this with the same tool the dealers use to flash the ECU.

Alternatively, the next least intrusive option would be some sort of piggyback unit. Id like to be able to log extended driving data for subsequen analyis. Is there such thing as a piggy-back data logger?

Any suggested hardware/software combinations? I am aware of the Cobb unit, I head mixed reviews.

Thanks!

I remember some one did get one. I seems like it was MazdaManiac that had the Mazda unit.

The Hymee or Harrison units may be what you are looking for to log and program the ECU.

The dealer laptop and "dongle" will not give you any reprogramming capability, other than installing the latest OE flashes, which you will only get if you subscribe and I seriously doubt you intend to lay down that sort of cash, even if you were able to finagle the purchase.

Yep, thats the conclusion I came to myself. Has anyone actually used their CobbTuner Race software?

From their website:

COBB Tuning has created AccessTUNER Race, tuning software designed for the end user. AccessTUNER allows the tuner to get into the heart of the OEM ECU and create custom calibrations for vehicles equipped with virtually any performance modification. The end result is a tune that is custom tailored to the vehicle’s unique modifications, producing maximum power gains while maintaining the drive-ability and sophistication inherent in the OEM ECU.

You have to be able to provide a Serial # to download the software... I don't know mine yet.
