Missing Idle Tables?

Hello,

I've been trying to adjust my idle speed on my 2006 RX-8 with varying degrees of luck. I've noticed people referencing Idle tables A through E. I only have a table A and a table B. Is it because I have a California spec 8? I changed the idle value to 900 RPMs for both tables, but the car seems to settle down to the default idle value when I sit longer than a few seconds. Anybody have any insight into this? Thanks in advance!

Try setting the idle to 1200 or so. Idle speed can vary from the target a bit, that should make it more clear whether or not the car is switching to an unexposed idle map.

Most of the Roms I've looked at have more like ten idle speed maps, you can see the challenge Cobb had in trying to figure out which ones actually control idle under normal operation -- maybe they blew it with your rom.

It would help to define which tuning system/program you are using.

Thank you for your replies! I'm tuning using the Accessport and the Accesstuner Race software. I know for sure the idle has changed, but the strange thing is the idle appears to settle on 900 when I come to a complete stop, but if I stay at idle for more than 3 seconds it slowly drops back down to the factory speed of 800 ish RPMs. I have a feeling that all the idle maps may not be exposed as you pointed out.

there is a folder in the map tables on the LH side titled Idle Speed, it will have five idle speed maps in it titled "ECT-based A", B C, D, and E

currrent AccessTuner Race program is V1.8.0.0-11359

Thanks for the reply! I definitely don't have 5 maps, let me see if I can get my screenshot in here. I'm also running the same version of ATR you are. Strange?

well it states that your car is an 2006-2008 auto trans? I'm not familiar enough with those to know if they are different or not

It would be strange if there was a difference due to transmission. I would suspect the difference is because I have a California emissions RX-8 rather than a federal emissions. The 6 speed automatic has a separate TCM so I wouldn't think they would alter the main ECU other than the rev limiter. Thanks again for the help!

There isn't a special Cali calibration. I can see it being different because the conditions behind those five manual idle speed maps would be different with an automatic trans. If MM isn't willing to speak up you should just call Cobb Tuning support and ask.

There are SIX idle tables in the 2006 - 2008 AT RX-8.

I didn't even realize that Brandon had cut a version of RACE for the '06 -'08 AT 6-port.
In any event, I don't thing any version of RACE has the proper AT idle tables.

Getting the idle to work correctly on the AT was something I persuaded them to get right AFTER they had already discontinued development of the RX-8 application.

Thank you for your reply Jeff. I called Cobb Tuning and they said that Brandon does not work there anymore. Do you know who else at Cobb who might be able to help me get the correct idle tables in ATR? It really is the last feature I would like to be able to modify. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

There is no further development going on in the AccessTUNER packages - both "RACE" and "PRO - for the RX-8.

WYSIWYG.

I suspect it is unlikely to happen. It doesn't seem like a new version of ATR has been built since 09 If the issue is the stumbling at idle, setting it to run a bit richer may help.
