Since you mentioned the S2k earlier, based on weight and dynos, CZ's Stage I ECU should put the RX8 in the same straight line performance range as a stock S2k, but with space for 4. :D
I just noticed that most of the people that are asking live in a warmer part of the country/world than many (but not all) of the people that have gotten them. There is some pretty heavy snow going through the U.S. right now.
I have driven a 2000, and 2002 s2000. Those cars had very close 5-60 times as the 8 stock. With the mod, I think the 8 will be faster. However, the newer s2000 will be close in stock form to the 8 with the stage one.....just my 2cents!
Is online ordering the only place to get one? Is the pro good enough or does the competition give that much more useful info (looks like the same data is produced, and for comparison purposes, seems like the basic one would be good enough to me).

I currently own a 2002 S2K and a 2004 RX-8... The RX-8 doesnt' come close 0-60 as the S2K. I'm pulling 5.2-5.4's with the S2K on a G-Tech, and 6.6 on the RX-8, thats 1.2 sec slower 0-60.. thats pretty huge..
And that if the RX-8 can even hook up because of the horrid wheel hop.

He said 5-60. 5-60 is the true test of a cars acceleration. based on the gearing and much better low end torque of the rx8 (yes I have driven both cars) that the comparision he is making. 0 - 60 in real life is very close between the cars, one mag got 5.9 for the rx8, I think they got 5.4 or so for the S2000 but I'd have to check on that.
The RX8 can run a mid 14 stock and the 2000 can run a low 14 high 13 stock. The wheel hop argument is lame. Neither car is made for drag racing, but they are not that far apart in performance. I still stick with the belief Stage 1 puts the RX8 around the same as a S2k in performance. The only way to ever find out is line them up at a strip. That would be a good race.
With either, while it is fun to go fast in a straight line (I spent enough time myself at the drag strip) they are both the wrong car. Even saying that I will still take my car to a drag strip. It is just fun.
And remember, before we start arguing, for comparison, a $20k SRT-4 will kick both our asses at the strip.
Originally posted by zerobanger BTW, I'm not saying the rx8 is good at the 5-60, I am sure both cars suck, its just that the rx-8 has more low end so it should be faster from 5-60.
I will completely go with that and believe it to be true as well. Yes, I have experience with both cars.
Canzoomer ran a 13.78 s 1/4 mile, timed with a GTech Pro Comp. That should equate to roughly a 0-60 MPH in around 5.4 seconds. Yeah yeah, I know, it was "just" a GTech, but it's the closest thing to "real" numbers we have right now.
17" wheels with Nokian WR low profile winter all season tires.
They are soft and sticky, although it was pretty cold out that day. +6C or 43F.
I think the 17" wheels make a pretty big difference in the 1/4.
With the low profile tires that is a 5% shorter gear ratio.
I suspect that accounts for probably .4 seconds of my improvement.
But, for comparison, same setup, Stage1 turned OFF I got 14.57 on best run that day.
So, the net gain was .79 seconds.
ASSUMING I got as good quality on both runs, hookup, slip, clutch, response times, etc.
My runs in each condition varied about .5 seconds from worst to best, so i am not very consistent.
I did 4 runs stock and 5 with the Stage1 turned on.
I am NOT a professional drag racer!

So you got 13.78 with the GTech sounds alot better than 14's
