So I dropped her off this morning...
Hi everyone,
Long time lurker first time poster. I've been having a lot of problems with my new (to me) 8. 2004 70k miles MT. I've checked everything I can think of, the cat isn't clogged as far as I can tell and it appears that the fuel pump is functioning correctly however I don't have the special quick disconnects for my fuel gauge tester so I didn't get a chance to check that. I figured it was worth the $100 bucks to take it in and see what the compression is so right now it's sitting at montegomery mazda awaiting some servicing. I also found out it didn't have MSP-16 so they are going to flash it with that also. I'll let everyone know how it goes later today.
Thanks,
Jeremy

It started with idling rough and hard starts. Now it dies at idle on hot days and even more so with the A/C on. It runs decent whenever it's colder temps out such as at night or in the early morning when I'm driving to work. I've been talking to Kane about it and he suggested I get it in right away so I made an appointment and we'll see what happens.

Just got the word from the dealer. 5.4 on rotor 1 and 5.7 on rotor 2. They are going to replace it and I should have a new motor and get my 8 back with in two weeks =D
The service manager mentioned a teflon coating, Does anyone know about this?

No, don't know anything about a teflon coating in the motor.
But, when you get your car back, if they don't require you to replace them when they change the motor, you should replace the ignition coils, spark plugs, and wires, as those are probably what helped the engine get so weak in the first place, after so many mile of barely firing the mixture in the engine.
BC.

The first thing I did when I first bought the car was an oil change, air filter change, coils, plugs, and wires. All of that has less than 1000 miles on it but thank you for the suggestion.

the housings's chrome surface area have a teflon coating. it is burned away during the break in period and assists in the even wear and bedding in of the housing's chrome surface and the apex seals during break in. the idea is that if the engine were ever starved of oil, the teflon coating that was bedded in would reemerge and provide temporary protection against apex seal and housing wear due to lack of oil. they've been doing this at least since the TII engine was introduced in it RX-7 in 1986 as an 87 model.

Thanks for the info Mazdaverx7. Hopefully this engine last a little bit longer. Does anyone know what I should set the OMP setting to and how much premix should be used with said omp setting?
Thanks for the info everyone, I want to make sure this engine last a little longer than the last one lol.

I already called their customer service and begged and so did the service manager. They said they didn't care if it was 1 day or 1 mile over. They aren't replacing it or paying a dime for it. I can understand if it wasn't an rx8 but they are known to have these kind of issues. I guess I am just a little upset about it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW! MAZDA did it again! Smh!!! I'm startng to learn.. Never buy a new rotary, always by used then rebuild even stronger. Youd probably save more $ too.

Well it appears no matter what I try Mazda had made their final decision. So time for NRS seals, a nice porting job and a Cobb. Hopefully with enough booze I can get Kane down here to lend a hand lol

Hey everyone, I know this is a dead thread but it's related.
I was wondering if anyone in the Charlotte / Fort Mill area of NC / SC had a cherry picker (engine hoist) I could rent off of them for a weekend? I got everything ready to go to pull the engine except the hoist Lol. I really appreciate it.
