Sell the 8 ???
Hey guys ... Im at a point right now where im sort of getting bored of the 8. Sometimes i wish i had more power when i see other cars on the road like 350z, g35, mustangs. Im like "damn i wish i could keep up with those cars" and it kind of makes my 8 look like a pos i guess. I know 0-60 isnt everything but i kinda wish the 8 had a better 0-60. My buddy will be getting a 350z soon
I was planning on going FI soon. But i was hoenstly debating wheter to do it since reliablity is a huge factor whenn FI any car or sell the 8 and get another car with more torque.
I sort of need you guys to pretty much remind me why we keep our 8s even though they dont have much power. Obviously the handlings there and its definitely a unique ride.
PS im not trolling. I guess im having a mild life crisis LOL
People who have sold the 8.... do you regret it ?

dont blame you. I love the power of both my M's. But they are over engineered and german. The 8 is such a unique car and a head turner. It is a rare car up here in Everett, Washington. All you see is BMW's and MB's. I personally would never get rid of it cause its slow haha. It gives me a thrill unlike both my BMW's.

I know what you mean, Rotary-RX8.
I traded my 8 in for a GTO. No remotely sane person driving a stock or lightly modded 350Z, G35 or 4.6L Mustang GT will so much as look at me at a stoplight, and I actually like that. It eliminates 95% of the idiot fanbois who used to pester me incessantly in the RX8.
At the same time, the arrogant BMW 328i, Mercedes E350 or Audi A4 2.0T drivers who see nothing but a "Pontiac" are going to get a heavy dose of reality if they want to sprint up from the light in the right-hand-lane and try to cut me off at the onramp... it's not gonna happen. Not even close.
It may sound strange, but I have far less people trying to mess with me in the GTO. Do I miss my RX8? Absolutely... for all the reasons where the RX8 is better than the GTO. Would I miss the rock solid reliable power of the GTO if I went back to an RX8? Absolutely.

^ yep, but if you do decide to trade it in (and I'm not really advocating that) get something stronger than a 350Z, G35 or Mustang GT. You will land yourself squarely in douche bag land if you do.

Well, I'm not sure how well the previous posts are doing at convincing you to keep your 8. But I can quite confidently say that I wouldn't trade my 8 in on any of the cars mentioned.
I'm not sure about where you live, but around here there are about three Mustangs on every corner, and a couple Camaros keeping them company. They're just a dime a dozen. There are less 350/370's for sure, but still more than the two or three RX's I see every couple weeks. So around here, unless you have a super-duper modded up Mustang/Camaro/350z, nobody gives it a second look. But, I get comments ALL the time about my RX8. Having complete strangers yelling across the parking lot just to tell you that they like your car is something special. I have never heard the same for the cars your thinking about trading for.
And with everyone sporting 350-400+ HP, I don't even see anyone bothering to race much. I pull away from cars just fine most of the time. I rarely feel the need for more torque. Would I like it? Sure, but I don't NEED it.
Also, and you can call me nuts, but I swear there is something spiritual about this car. It has some kind of energy that other cars just don't have, at least none that I've had before. Some people talk to their cars, but with the RX8, you can have a conversation.
In the end, you have to be happy. Every good car has it's pros and cons. You just have to decide what is right for you, not for your friends.

The misses tracks her RX8 6spd auto on a 1.8 mile track and at times she sure wishes she had more get up and go, and then a 2010 mustang shelby gt 500 "500 plus HP" left the paddock right behind her. It took him 2 laps to pass her and after the session was over he appears and tells her how she walked off from him in the corners and had to know all about her car. Brought a really big smile to her face. HP and torque or handling and a one of a kind looking car, the choice is yours.

As I searched for my RX-8, off and on for more than a year, I seriously considered each one of the cars you've mentioned. And test drove each, except for the GTO. Each time I found it easy to walk away, because of the strong feeling that I had driven "just another sports coupe."
Sure, those cars are 5-8% faster to 60, and surely get a few more mpg. But other than that, they have nothing else to offer me, compared the RX-8. And I mean literally nothing. There are so many intangibles to the RX-8 that matter so much to me, that no other car in its price range can match.
All that being said... A car is a very personal choice. Go test drive all those other cars you mentioned. Then take a day or two to think about it, and make your own decision.

I don't want to sound 'old', lol, but how fast do you realistically want to go? Add more power/torque is only going to get you into trouble quicker from the law.
Also, the less torque you have the more you have to work the gears, but isn't that what driving is all about? Enjoy your unique car

I say do what you like. I mean I hit the point where I was getting "bored" like you said. There isn't really an answer that would make you keep or sell the 8, but the only thing is to figure out what you want from your vehicle and what the 8 can provide you. If you want more power than the 8 isn't going to cut it, but if you want a great handling car then your in luck. For me I just getting bored of not able to do anything with my car because I daily it, so I found a way to make it more fun and enjoyable GL on the decision!

There is nothing wrong with wanting more torque, its good fun. When driving other cars the difference is really in where the power and torque are made. I drove my friends 88' supercharged mr2 and it felt like it had way more ***** than my rx8 down low which is fun, and its only 145 hp and 140 torque lol(but its also ~600 pounds lighter). It just sucks to have such low torque when your in the lower rpms.
The 350z in around 2009 is 300ish hp and 260ish torque with similar weight to the rx8, imagine the rx8 with 100 more torque, it would be amazing even though the 350z does weigh like 500 pounds more. Personally I have never driven a 350z but I imagine it has more of that push you back into the seat feeling even though it does weigh more than the rx8. I love my rx8 but I just wish it had a little bit more torque.

How do you people turn so many heads in these things? I have not once had a random person say anything about my 8 nor have I ever noticed it turning heads
Take the car to track, and you'll find out why you have it. I've also tracked my 6sp auto and like someone said above, you'll take the faster cars all day long except in the straights where you'll get pummeled by just about everything

I hear what you are saying and I went thru the same dilemma and agonizing over selling the 8. Right now, the used car market is strong and I got a decent trade value recently for my 2010 8, unlike what I got for my 2008 8, when the used car market wasnt as strong, I lost a ton. Sadly the 8 has a history of awful depreciation/resale values, so if it was me, Id trade/sell while the used car values are up.
Torque is addicting and it is fun and it is what moves the car....Shop around and compare, I never dreamed Id own an EVO but when I test drove and researched it...it was like an epiphany...my eyes were opened to TORQUE! I have no regrets.

Alright guys ive read each and everyone of your posts. Thank you very much and some of you have definitely convinced me to keep the 8. Instead of quoting each post ill just respond generally.
The 8 is definitely a sexy looking car ... if not the best in its price range. Thanks for reminding me although its not a 0-60, it will definitely make other cars run for their money on the track. Also, it turns heads like no other cars. YEsterday, my buddy came up to me while i was driving by "Heyyyy i didnt know this is your rideee.... sick rideee dude !!!" .. Made me smile lol.
The cars i mentioned arent cars i was considering trading my 8 for. I just mentioned those cars as examples. I was considering either an m3 or 370z.
My rx8 is fully paid off since the day i picked her up. So i guess ill keep her and save up a year or 2 for a car with more power.
As for street racing (in other words having a little fun on the street when its safe which everyone does) or going to the drag strip. I dont do it often ... but its always fun to know your car has alot of torque.
Thanks everyone
