Unhappy Paint chipping on rear lights

Has anyone seen anything like this before? While washing my 8 today i noticed the paint was falling off around the edges of the tail light bezel. Its only on one side. I have never removed the light assembly, so it kinda ticks me off... The thought of having to burn into the original paint so soon just kills me. I dont know about the rest of you but the paint on the RX8 seems to chip easier than any other car Ive ever had... either that, or its the first time I really cared so much about a car that I notice ever paint chip.... so far about 10 =(

the paint on my s2k seems to be really thin as well...had a small rock hit the hood yesterday and it chipped down to the metal.

sound like you are rubbing your car very hard....

But this should not happen... I will bring attention to the your local Mazda agent and they should fix this under warranty

Even if I were "rubbing my car very hard" I can honestly tell you... I have never even touched that part of the car... Id have to rub it with a grinder to take paint off like that....

No offense dude... but if you are going to post, try posting something useful... No kidding it shouldnt happen to a 3 month old car...and gee... I never would have thought of taking it to the local Mazda dealer.... thought maybe I would pay for it myself!

Not happy with mazda service

Ok, so I took the car in on Monday, they told me that the Service Manager will have to look at it, but he wasnt in. So I go in today (Friday) and the service manager was off again. But the service advisor said that all "warranty repaints" would be sent to a regional service manager. Ive read alot about getting warranty work done on Mazdas is like pulling teeth. Please tell me this isnt going to be the case. I love my car, but so far im not impressed with Mazda service. Hell, when I had my Pontiac, they ALWAYS replaced or fixed ANYTHING, no matter what, no questions asked.... What the hell? So I have to go in on monday to see what the guys says... Is it me, or am I the only one that thinks paint chipping off a car in this spot on a 5000 mile car is totally unacceptable???

I totally agree about the paint chipping off. That's rediculous. On the service department problems, how many dealers have you got that are reasonably close? Just because you bought the car at dealer "A", doesn't necessarily mean you have to go back to dealer "A". If the first dealer gives you the runaround, go to another one. The warranty stories you've heard about Mazda being difficult, are really hit and miss. I have been fortunate with the dealer I went to for service recently, although I would never dream of buying from them. After 15 years in a service industry, one thing I've learned along the way is: Bitch. Complain. Become the squeaky wheel. If they don't take care of it, go to the North American Mazda web site, file a complaint in the 'contact us' section, Or email mazdastate@mazdausa.com.

I would be very surprised to see Mazda refusing to fix your problem. Its obvious in the picture that its not wear and tear. There was no collision. It is a defect. Plain and simple.
If they deny it....then they will have to explain exactly what you did to cause it to chip.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Why they are giving you the run around is a mystery to me. It doesn't make any sense why the service manager needs to get involved in approving the warranty work. I suppose since there are so many variables to what may cause paint damage....and they don't trust the techs to make the call.

flyboyindy (Frank),

We're with ya. This is an obvious warentee issue IMO. I assuem you are dealing with "Wood" as the "Hubler" shops are still under construction. If you need some stength in number, let me know and I'll see if I can help you strong arm em! Hopefully it won't come to that.
