The PAINT is coming OFF!!!
Thats right... was washing her down yesterday and the paint on the rear bumper where it seams up with the tail light just started peeling off! Taking into the dealer on Friday.(NOT HAPPY!)

That totally sucks. Mazda had a problem with their white paint coming off about 10 years ago. I hope this isn't another problem in the works. When you got your car did it have many miles on it? The reason I ask is you wouldn't believe how many cars get small and sometime large amounts of damage done to them on the lot and they fix them without telling the person who buys the car.

RX-EVolved, can you describe your car-care practices? Do you wash/wax your own car or have someone do it for you? What products have you applied to that area? Can you see similar peeling anywhere else? This totally sux and I feel bad for you. Let us know what your dealer says.

Huh?
That does not look like the 8's taillight. You'd see clear and then a round red light, right? That is an angular red light piece. Hmmmm.....not sure. That paint job looks old or very dirty. Tough to say.
It looks like an 8. The pic is real close. That angled red tail light is bottom part of the outside light. Also, there is the glare from the clear cover. It is hard to see because the pic was taken so upclose.
What we are seeing is the inside of the tail light assembly. It appears that the bumper is rubbing up/rubbed up against the tail light. His car may have been bumped when parked.
I remember some other owner having cracks in the rear tail lights. This may be related.

Folks, it is an 8. Take a copy of the pic out to your car and compare side-by-side. The problem is, it's so close-up you can't recognize it. The red lens on the left is your side lens reflector; the width left to right of the red lens in the pic onscreen is about 3/4 inches, in real life it's the quarter inch thickness of the side red reflector. That angled line down from the red lens is a manufacturing artifact that is really there if you look close. The paint deformity is the bottom seal of the tail light assembly where it meets the body of the car.
What we need to do is get off this guy's case and take a careful look at the problem. He has brought an important issue to our attention. I doubt only one '8 in the entire Mazda inventory is suffering peeling paint, so let's get together and figure out what's going on.
