Hyundai Tiburon owner, thinking about an 8

Hey guys,

I currently drive a tricked out Hyundai Tiburon GT, and I was thinking about maybe switching to an RX-8. I know the RX-8 looks alot better, but the Tib is faster. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

what does it matter? There will always be faster straight line cars than the rx8.

anyway, in summary :

rx8 >> tiburon

Well according to the people on the tiburon forums, the tib is faster than an automatic 8. Now, I'd get the manual of course, but I was wondering what performance mods I could do to it to get it into respectable numbers?
Thanks

what is "respectable"?

You are already compromising on the fun factor of the car by getting the auto ...

But if you need to be "respectable" fast, then maybe you can supercharge it, set it up with nitrous shots, get it tubbed, run it on racing alcohol, and put a parachute on the back?

hold on guys, he said it was "TRICKED OUT"
omg i dont even think my dad even uses that term.

a 2003 tib is the third gen, so i suppose a third gen with the 2.7 in the manual vs a 2004-2005 auto rx8......the tib would win, by how much, i dunno, but if u have an auto rx8, why the hell r u interested in racing?

if u want speed, for the money u can do ALOT BETTER than an rx8.

i can name cars for way LESS than an rx8 that would burn it, so dont even bother about an rx8, itss ppl like u why they keep gettin flooded and they bitch about their gas mileage, STILL, after owning it for three years and dont have the ***** to trade it in and get a 350z like the rest of these american sports car "hard core" enthusiasts who cant think for themselves.

if ur gonna spend the THOUSANDS that itt akes to make an rx8 "fast" then u were better off buyin a car for thousands LESS that made equal performance than your TRICKED OUT automatic rx8

First off....please quit putting the auto RX-8 in a class of it's own. Yea...it has less horsepower but it's still a rotary and it's still an RX-8. I loved the styling of the RX-8 and intially wanted a manual but I got one hell of a deal on a used auto and still have fun driving it. Second, you have to understand that the Tib is not in the same class of car. I basically put the RX-8, 350Z, S2000, G35, WRX Sti, Lancer EVO, etc. in a "true" performance class (even thougth the auto 8 by no means is a "true" sports car). Your Tib is up there with the good 'ol Honda Civics although it maybe down one notch because it comes from Korea. Hey...let's not forget Daewoo. If you are into "value" cars and "tricking them out" maybe you can turbo a Suzuki Forenza and let us know how that turns out.

I certainly wouldn't say the RX8 is slow, by any means.

The manual RX8 is definitely faster than the Hyundai Tiburon V6...

As for racing, it all depends on what type of road you are on. If you have a road with a lot of turns and corners, the 8 is an unbelievable performer (much better than the 350Z in the corners). In a straight line, though, there are many cars that can beat it (S2000, 350Z, etc).

You really want to have an unbiased review? Check out this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2emH...elated&search=

Top Gear review of the RX8 in comparison to track times of 350Z and BMW M3. All three had the same track time.

All I can say is....test drive the car. You will not find a more fun car on the planet for under $40K, as well as a more original car. The 9000 RPM redline and ultra smooth engine make the car one of the best in the world (imo).

.... in a straight line. I'm sure your Tiburon is fast, but it still couldn't touch an rx8 around a tight racetrack or through twisty roads where handling and braking come into play.

If you want raw speed, look elsewhere. If you want a driver's car that is still pretty quick, look at the rx8.

I was thing of the rx-8 but it sounds like theres not much you can do with it, which is why I was asking. Go ahead and rip the tib, but I'm sure it would smoke any of you.
I don't know about that.....there are some members on this forum who have supercharged their RX8's to get around 350 - 400 rwhp. There are also 3 rotor RX-8's out there that are unbelievably fast.

A stock RX-8 manual would destroy a stock Tiburon GT any day of the week. A highly modded RX-8 is no different than a highly modified Tiburon...it all depends how much money / work you put into the car.

The Tib is supposed to be a reliable car stock but adding things to it could make it unreliable.

Sounds like you sunk some money into it.

If you like doing that then the 8 is definitely for you.

NoTears I agree this is.

Here's the relevant question - have you driven an RX-8? You've gotta try one.

Folks here have put turbo chargers and so forth into theirs. Search on Petit for superchargers. Plenty to find and learn - check the Major Horsepower sub-forum. Tip for you - no one's going to submit to you a personal summary of 4+ years of posts, links and articles just because you joined the forum for free today. Some folks ask for exactly that almost that plainly - never gets a good response. So, search, read, and go test-drive.
Thanks for the info man

If you are serious about this.....listen to what Cool-Blue-Dad said.

Test drive it.

I have driven 350z and didn't like its handling and some of the other issues I have had with it. Been a long time owner of 3 different Mustang GT and it was the same issue as 350z.
I am looking to buy the RX8 from one test drive of 20minutes that I took last year. It isn't crazy fast but I love the way it drives. I was purchasing a 06 Eclipse GT and just waiting and it was a Mazda-Mitsubishi dealership so I just wanted to do it. I almost didn't go through the Eclipse sale.

Long story short....drive it.....no matter how modified a Tiburon is...it is a Hyundai and their warranty is great, but I don't give Hyundai's a glance as I pass them by.

BTW, it is retarded to compare AT version speed to anything.....that is a noob mistake in current car market.....
