Space was pretty much the thing that ruled that out. Also, they were such a popular car that they've held value better. Might be a better investment, but they tend to cost a bit more when buying as well. Given my current situation, I'm willing to risk a little more lost value than paying more into something that has held more value up to this point, if that makes any sense.

As for mods, I'm going to try and stay away from that, aside from the possibility of a few basics. I'm not entirely sure how long I'll own this car and any mods would just be lost value. As it stands, it's not complete stock and has a bit of "flair" if you will. There's only one specific mod I'm pretty set on getting because I know it makes a huge difference in the driving experience and all reports seem to agree.

Within the next couple of years I should have a better idea of my intents to stay or what I might be doing, so I can consider things like mods later.

Oh, I wish.

I agree, Scott. None of the options are exactly fuel efficiency kings. Plus, none of the options I'm looking at are new. Even if the models had been significantly improved in recent years, those cars are likely out of my range and I'd be looking at the older model anyways. When I'm looking at older GT-Rs that fit my price range, I don't particularly care whether or not they've improved them since then. The same pretty much applies to all the options I considered. I don't think I looked at any cars that are still in their most recent generation.

I guess I didn't mention gas mileage in my initial post. While it could be an inconvenience at times, it's really insignificant for me. Gas is expensive here. Around $6/gallon (165 yen/liter). That said, I have a 3-4 minute bike ride to work. I generally just bike to take care of things like grocery shopping as well. I only have one day in the week when I regularly put in any significant mileage and it's still only 26 km (16 miles). Pretty much everything else is going out for fun, whether it be a drive or simply going out with friends. The only time fuel efficiency will be of any real concern for me is if I go on any road trips or longer drives. It just means I have to stop more often and pay a little more on those trips, but I've only gone on one or 2 significant ones up until this point. We (friends and I) often rotate who drives, so it's not a frequent issue.

Anyway: paperwork submitted to the police station and will receive approval around the middle of this week. Will mail that to the dealer ASAP and may be able to get the paperwork completely sorted by this week or weekend. It's coming together slowly, but surely.

After quite a bit of research I've decided to replace my '04 RX-8 with a 2015 VW GTI. It has slightly less horsepower but much more torque. It'll be my first non Japanese car. I can't wait.
