View Full Version : Greddy Oil Pan On (differences).....
Fanman 01-10-2006, 02:05 AM Just put my Greddy oil pan on this past week and switched from Royal Purple 5w20 to 5w30. On driving back & looking at my EGT's it is a good 30-40 degrees F cooler than before. Didn't think it would make much/if any difference, but it did. I'm pretty surprised, I guess the extra .5 Quart of oil and/or the aluminum design makes a bit of difference.
rxeightr 01-10-2006, 07:02 AM Do I understand you correctly?
Are you stating the exhaust gas temperatures are cooler because of extra, higher weight oil?
Or maybe those cooling fins on the oil pan.....
alcimedes 01-10-2006, 07:14 AM Any idea what your oil temps were/are now?
MadDog 01-10-2006, 09:49 AM Great information. I installed an oil cooler that added 1.25 quarts and started using Royal Purple 5W20. I don't have any temp gages installed, so I don't have any before and after data, but I like what yours shows!
Fanman 01-10-2006, 12:22 PM I honestly am not sure if it is the new oil weight, or the fact that the pan allows slightly more oil, or the fact that the pan is made of thicker grade aluminum (vs. thin steel). My EGT gauge is in farenheit so it is shows a bit more latitude/range (in terms of showing temp changes) then celsius. Just letting people know what I saw. I have driven it about 5X since I had the pan installed & I swear each time it is running just a bit cooler.
YaRiX8 10-09-2006, 10:21 AM Does the Greddy oil pan can be installed on non-turboed RX8? I am looking to lower a little bit the oil temperature and it seems this could help a little bit.
I use my car on the track
Thank you
two rotors 10-09-2006, 12:42 PM yes.
YaRiX8 10-09-2006, 01:22 PM yes.
Direct and simple!
thx
mikeschaefer 10-11-2006, 07:26 AM yeah you just need to get another drain plug from the dealer
evilmiata 10-11-2006, 08:47 AM ^^^Or from any parts store. I can't imagine what the dealer will charge!
mysql101 10-11-2006, 08:53 AM get one of the quick drain plugs instead.
That's the major bonus of the greddy oil pan, you don't have to disconnect the oil return line from the turbo before draining.
YaRiX8 10-11-2006, 08:54 AM yeah you just need to get another drain plug from the dealer
and what is a drain plug? Why do I need another one? :uhh:
I don't have turbo and never will :)
mysql101 10-11-2006, 09:10 AM because the greddy pan has two drains on it. one for the turbo oil return, the other for standard draining.

Ok, but I just found out this picture. I see 3 "holes". Am I wrong?
MadDog 10-11-2006, 09:25 AM the other hole is for the oil level sensor.
YaRiX8 10-11-2006, 09:29 AM the other hole is for the oil level sensor.
Thx again.
For the second oil drainer, can't I just screw it? :uhh:
mysql101 10-11-2006, 10:05 AM that's what post #9 in this thread said..
nycgps 10-12-2006, 12:34 AM I have a question guys.
I never really pay attention to the oil pan until now ....
Is it possible to install this pan myself? I already got the fumoto valve, so I dont think I need another drain bolt ....
So I can just buy this pan, unbolt the old one, put this new one on(I assume it has all the gasket I need?) , put the oil level sensor, bolt and fumoto valve and Im set ?
adrian-1 10-12-2006, 03:06 AM Install is pretty easy. Install oil sensor AND other stuff that's on the inside. Here's a post (http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?p=935843&postcount=272) on it.
Also, there is no gasket, it just uses rtv sealant.
nycgps 10-13-2006, 08:16 AM rtv sealant ? where can I get those ? auto parts store ?
(sorry still got alot to learn!)
thanks !

i second that with a :squint:

Auto parts store. There are a bunch of different colors that you can use. Read the packaging for recommended applications. BTW, its easy to install the Greddy but a Beotch to get the stock one off; that RTV is super-sticky! Mazda notes a special tool that slides between the block and the pan to make the removal easier.
nycgps 10-13-2006, 07:42 PM and the special tool is ? ....................
Brettus 05-19-2007, 06:38 PM Just bumping this thread to ask if any one else has this & noticed a reduction in oil temps ?
Cheers
Brett
stickmantijuana 05-20-2007, 09:49 AM i had oil temp gauge before & after i had greddy oil pan. i personally didn't notice any noticeable drop in hot cali summer. perhaps if it's cooler, it'd make some difference.
i spend fair amount of time looking at all the gauges regularly when driving... so i think it's a relatively reliable subjective opinion.

Does this oil pan hang much lower than the stock pan? Would you have any problems if your car was lowered? Thanks.
california style 05-20-2007, 04:51 PM I'd like to know that too...
LiL BenNy 05-20-2007, 05:59 PM i got mine installed with my turbo so idk for temp changes...
as for scratching going uip my driveway it hasnt scracted...
9krpmrx8 05-20-2007, 06:17 PM Anyone know the cheapest place to get the pan?
nycgps 05-21-2007, 07:11 AM I helped my father to take his mini van's oil pan out and clean it last month. it was very easy, 2-3 hours and u'll be done.
9krpmrx8 05-21-2007, 08:16 PM Damn $240.00 for an oil pan. Thanks for the info. I too would like to see the inside. Too bad Moroso does not make a pan for the 8.
staticlag 05-21-2007, 10:06 PM Im pretty sure you have to use the stuff from your old pan from your new one, it has the same inner mounting locations as the stock one.
chickenwafer 05-22-2007, 04:30 PM a local guy here with n 8 has a GReddy oil pan and Koyo rad and only runs about 10 degrees cooler than I do with none of those. But I am considering both just for the added cooling capacity and oil capacity.
