Greddy Oil Pan On (differences).....

Just put my Greddy oil pan on this past week and switched from Royal Purple 5w20 to 5w30. On driving back & looking at my EGT's it is a good 30-40 degrees F cooler than before. Didn't think it would make much/if any difference, but it did. I'm pretty surprised, I guess the extra .5 Quart of oil and/or the aluminum design makes a bit of difference.

Do I understand you correctly?
Are you stating the exhaust gas temperatures are cooler because of extra, higher weight oil?

Or maybe those cooling fins on the oil pan.....

Any idea what your oil temps were/are now?

MadDog 01-10-2006 08:49 AM

Great information. I installed an oil cooler that added 1.25 quarts and started using Royal Purple 5W20. I don't have any temp gages installed, so I don't have any before and after data, but I like what yours shows!

I honestly am not sure if it is the new oil weight, or the fact that the pan allows slightly more oil, or the fact that the pan is made of thicker grade aluminum (vs. thin steel). My EGT gauge is in farenheit so it is shows a bit more latitude/range (in terms of showing temp changes) then celsius. Just letting people know what I saw. I have driven it about 5X since I had the pan installed & I swear each time it is running just a bit cooler.

Does the Greddy oil pan can be installed on non-turboed RX8? I am looking to lower a little bit the oil temperature and it seems this could help a little bit.

I use my car on the track

Thank you

yeah you just need to get another drain plug from the dealer

evilmiata 10-11-2006 07:47 AM

^^^Or from any parts store. I can't imagine what the dealer will charge!

mysql101 10-11-2006 07:53 AM

get one of the quick drain plugs instead.

That's the major bonus of the greddy oil pan, you don't have to disconnect the oil return line from the turbo before draining.

and what is a drain plug? Why do I need another one? :uhh:

I don't have turbo and never will :)

mysql101 10-11-2006 08:10 AM

because the greddy pan has two drains on it. one for the turbo oil return, the other for standard draining.

Ok, but I just found out this picture. I see 3 "holes". Am I wrong?

MadDog 10-11-2006 08:25 AM

the other hole is for the oil level sensor.

Thx again.
For the second oil drainer, can't I just screw it? :uhh:

mysql101 10-11-2006 09:05 AM

that's what post #9 in this thread said..

I have a question guys.

I never really pay attention to the oil pan until now ....

Is it possible to install this pan myself? I already got the fumoto valve, so I dont think I need another drain bolt ....

So I can just buy this pan, unbolt the old one, put this new one on(I assume it has all the gasket I need?) , put the oil level sensor, bolt and fumoto valve and Im set ?

adrian-1 10-12-2006 02:06 AM

Install is pretty easy. Install oil sensor AND other stuff that's on the inside. Here's a post on it.
Also, there is no gasket, it just uses rtv sealant.

nycgps 10-13-2006 07:16 AM

rtv sealant ? where can I get those ? auto parts store ?

(sorry still got alot to learn!)

thanks !

Auto parts store. There are a bunch of different colors that you can use. Read the packaging for recommended applications. BTW, its easy to install the Greddy but a Beotch to get the stock one off; that RTV is super-sticky! Mazda notes a special tool that slides between the block and the pan to make the removal easier.

nycgps 10-13-2006 06:42 PM

and the special tool is ? ....................

Just bumping this thread to ask if any one else has this & noticed a reduction in oil temps ?
Cheers
Brett

i had oil temp gauge before & after i had greddy oil pan. i personally didn't notice any noticeable drop in hot cali summer. perhaps if it's cooler, it'd make some difference.

i spend fair amount of time looking at all the gauges regularly when driving... so i think it's a relatively reliable subjective opinion.
