View Full Version : Red line transmission fluid= greatest thing since sliced bread
P Daddy 12-18-2005, 12:31 AM Seriously well worth the time and $$$$$.
FInally the transmission feels like a $30K car.
WHy doesn't mazda dump this stuff in all along???
BlueRenesis82 12-18-2005, 12:46 AM because most people wont notice the difference and the ones that would will change it anyway?
rotarygod 12-18-2005, 01:01 AM Everone knows I personally use Royal Purple but Redline is very nice stuff. Both have very nice lubricants.
StealthTL 12-18-2005, 01:47 AM Redline was great in mine....make sure you use the MT90, not the MTL - it is too thin. (I use about two thirds MT90, one third MTL :) )

brillo 12-18-2005, 02:32 AM I use RP but I used the redline in my Mazda6....great stuff.
I can't recommend either RP or redline tranny fluid enough to folks
swoope 12-18-2005, 02:41 AM i think it is the mod that you can feel the most.

Gomez 12-18-2005, 09:14 PM It isn't a cure all. I'm sure it has improved the shift feel of many of you in snowy climates, but it made absolutely no difference to my car. We see an occasional snowflake once every five years.
I used MT90.....I still have a notchy 1st-2nd shift, a common complaint of many RX-8 owners. This miracle lubricant didn't fix it, athough many said it would.

arghx7 12-21-2005, 11:24 AM I use MT-90 in my FC with 151k miles on the tranny. Still runs strong with no grinding as of late.
AndysAutoSport 12-21-2005, 01:31 PM I tried Redline in my 240SX and it turned to water pretty much, broke down way to quickly. I'm now using Royal Purple and it's been working well thus far.
I used Reline is my '92 Integra as well and I had no problems then, I guess the OS Giken Tranny on my 240SX is not liking Redline or something.
Red Devil 12-21-2005, 01:41 PM I posted this somewhere else recently, but I have Royal Purple in my tranny and differential. I didn't really notice too much of a difference. The shifts didn't feel any smoother. I just think it was good to flush all the break-in shavings out of there.
Purple Helmet 12-22-2005, 12:04 AM I used Royal Purple in my Tranny and Differential, the Tranny was very happy shim was well greased and ready to go!

Mine is notchy on ther 1-2 shift when cold. But usually it takes just seconds for it to smooth out again (usually just the 1st shift is overly notchy). Is your notchy all the time, or just when cold? I ask because if it is overly notchy all the time, maybe you are rushing the shift (not letting the rpm drop enough) between shifts? Sometimes taking a fraction of a second off of the shft makes it shift a lot smoother.
Dark8 12-22-2005, 01:22 PM With the OEM tranny oil I had trouble getting the 1-2 shift when below 50 degrees. It was really stiff until everything warmed up. With Redline (MT-90 and MTL 50/50 mix) my cold shifting is much easier and warm shifting is a little faster also.
Raevik 12-22-2005, 02:16 PM Ok, so stupid non-techie person question: how hard is it to drain your own tranny fluid and replace it with redline?
I usually do oil and filter changes and tire rotations myself...and that's about it:)
Dark8 12-22-2005, 03:56 PM Easier (for me) then changing the engine oil:

No mate. Comes standard on every 2nd RX-8.
crossbow 12-23-2005, 08:16 AM If your looking for an alternative to either redline or royalpurple, check out Speciality Formulations MTL-R.

Most owners who switch from the standard replacements (redline,rp, amsoil) usually end up staying with the SF products.

TheBri 02-06-2007, 04:27 PM I had Redline MT-90 and 75W90 put in my car today.
Damn.
Shifting is vastly improved. Overall the drivetrain just feels smoother. I should have done this a long time ago. Anyone still on the fence about this should just do it.
olddragger 02-06-2007, 05:42 PM RP and redline shockproof

I put Redline in my transmission and diff yesterday. Man, I should have done this sooner!
Transmission shifts very nicely now! Great stuff...
