View Full Version : what classes rvrcity 10-31-2005, 10:42 AM What classes are the RX-8 eligible for? BS SM STX or U? ULLLOSE 10-31-2005, 11:00 AM BS and STU are for sure. BSP and SM the car fits but as far as I know is not listed there yet. ChopsMcgraw 10-31-2005, 11:17 AM Anyone running STU nationally next year?? I know there are a few guys on the forum already running there regionally, but from the parts appearing in the marketplace it would appear that there are others plotting an assault on the stevos... rvrcity 10-31-2005, 01:43 PM What would it take to prep an RX-8 for STU. I have been running an MR2 Spyder in CS and want to get away from changing tires 2x every event. Thanks in advance... Glyphon 10-31-2005, 02:02 PM bs - yes sts - no? sts2 - no stx - yes stu - yes bsp - yes sm - yes bp - yes? why change the tires 2x every event? unless that is street -> race -> street. but that would be the same for any car (assuming the change to race tires). Imp 10-31-2005, 02:15 PM STX - NO. It's specifically classed in STU. --kC Imp 10-31-2005, 02:21 PM What would it take to prep an RX-8 for STU. I have been running an MR2 Spyder in CS and want to get away from changing tires 2x every event. Thanks in advance... The RX8 is all set for STU as is. Just add driver. ;) Or: 17x9 or 17x9.5 lightweight wheels Yokohama 255/40-17 Advan Neovas (excellent gearing advantage with fantastic grip) Some kind of adjustable coilovers (ie: Koni double adjustables with ground control adjustable perches and 500-600lb spring rates) Adjustable front and rear sway bars Racing beat REV-I intake Header Exhaust with one highflow cat Seats that weigh 15lbs. Better rear limited slip. Battery reloacted to trunk AC removed Some kind of engine management that would give a little more mid-range oomph. That's about it.... other than good pads (do NOT need super duper calipers as then you're limited in wheel choice) something like Carbotech panther plus. If I were building one... it'd look something like the above. ;) --KC rvrcity 10-31-2005, 02:59 PM Great to hear that!s ULLLOSE 10-31-2005, 04:07 PM The RX8 is all set for STU as is. I would go for the 18X9.5" with a 275-35-18. TeamRX8 10-31-2005, 04:24 PM IMO those spring rates will never work on an RX-8 with street tires, you must have confused them from some other car aftermarket/custom lower control arms may be required to, not sure if you can get the necessary camber range otherwise ULLLOSE 10-31-2005, 04:39 PM These guys have setup a car: http://www.good-win-racing.com/ They had 18X9.5 all around with 275s under stock fenders. I don't think they have done much work in the power dept, just suspension. So far the car has not been that fast when I have seen it run, but I think that has more to do with the guy driving it than the parts on it. Imp 10-31-2005, 07:18 PM I guess some guys just like to lose. :hahano: You stick with those 225s. I would go for the 18X9.5" with a 275-35-18. OOPS! Typo fixed... should be 255/40-17. (Not 225) Imp 10-31-2005, 07:20 PM IMO those spring rates will never work on an RX-8 with street tires, you must have confused them from some other car Oh dear, where have *I* heard that before, where high spring rates won't work on a Double wishbone with streets.... Hmmm... You can beleive what you want to... that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :) As far as the camber range... I'm sure there's a way to add more camber without replacing a-arms... Heck, even in stock form, the camber curve is excellent.. on streets without much grip and a high spring rate, you're not going to be needing much camber. --kC TeamRX8 10-31-2005, 07:35 PM I'm not saying they aren't the right choice for some cars, only that I don't believe they are the right choice for the RX-8 as I recall, I also said I didn't believe the RB front swaybar would work on a Stock solo2 RX-8 either ... :wavey: clyde 10-31-2005, 07:36 PM As far as the camber range... I'm sure there's a way to add more camber without replacing a-arms... I've heard about these camber plates that are available... :bling: :ftw: willhave8 10-31-2005, 08:31 PM The RX8 is all set for STU as is. El Kabong 10-31-2005, 09:07 PM Is a high-flow car allowed in STU? El Kabong 10-31-2005, 09:08 PM oops - meant "cat" not "car" TeamRX8 10-31-2005, 09:12 PM yes, the exhaust system must be emissions compliant, otherwise you can change it entirely from header to outlet tip, including the cat converter. AlexCisneros 10-31-2005, 09:16 PM you forgot under drive pulleys, and I hear those camber plates really stiffen the car :suspect: Mhyrr 11-01-2005, 09:48 PM So is anyone going to STU next year? KC? |
