gt car for daytona 24 hr

the car is a 20b power RX-8 build by tamborine

Yes, we are the same team that had the Miata at the 24hr in 2001, but missed the field due to a piece of metal in the fuel regulator during the last sesson. We did run a few more races at Mid Ohio and Road America before deciding that we just could not compete against the Porsche's, V8 BMW's and the Mosler's.

Our car will be different from the Golden's in the basic design. We are building a tube frame chassis and hanging the sheet metal body on it. We are not starting with a tub car. Also, we will be using a transaxle with IRS. We will attempt to make the 24 hr. but prefer to sort and test before bringing the car out.

I am very excited about returning to the GT class in the Grand Am and feel the cars has great potential to be a front runner.

I too remember the great days in the 1980's. Mazda had over 100 wins in IMSA. Hopefully we can start a new decade of success.

Cool article, thanks for posting. Interesting rules.

And, at least Burd Phillips knows he is an idiot for hating Porsche.

BP: How do you get your hands on the CAD files for all of these production cars?

RO: Either from the manufacturers, which is awfully tough, or other sources which I will call trade secrets in this area of design and "reverse engineering."
Trade secret eh? Funny, I have had a couple things modeled using a CMM. Not much of a trade secret.

Very cool! I'll be looking forward to watching that.

Still hoping to see an Rx-8 in ALMS GT2 and/or speed world challenge. Might be tricky with thier rules, but it would be awesome to see it up there with the big dogs.

SpeedSource is building 2, Spencer is having 1 built as well. The 24 should be cooler this year because of the 8's presence.

I didn't think they could run the RX-8 in ALMS, I thought ALMS rules stated the vehicles must be two door vehicles?

Goldins will be back

Sorry, I have not been keeping up with the site lately. Goldin Brothers Racing will be at the Rolex again this year. We tested the car a few months back at Sebring working on chassis setup. Right now the car is undergoing full rebuild along with a few changes. Hopefully, we will be testing again soon in preparation for the Rolex.

We are still looking for sponsors. If you or someone you know is interested, please let me know?

Thanks
Scott
