double clutching is usually done when rev matching to downshift.

normally, when you downshift, you press in clutch, shift gear, rev match, release clutch

in a double clutch, you press in clutch, put gear in neutral, clutch out, rev match, clutch in, shift gear, release clutch

main benefit is when done properly, it reduces wear on your synchronizers, which, ironically, are designed so you don't have to double clutch to downshift :o

I use to have to double clutch in my 356b

driving in gear 1
clutch pedal down
shift to neutral
clutch up
clutch down
now shift to 2

You do this because of worn or (lack of) syncros on older trannys. They had no way to
rev match and your are helping it out.

Sounds convoluted, but with practice you can do it quickly.

of course 0-60 in a 356 is somewhere around, oh 15 seconds :eek:

Also if you run Naaahhs, you have to double clutch or you will blow your intercooler ;)

you have to double clutch so you'll look like vin diesel

pretty much when you normally downshift, you don't accelerate the speed of the input shaft in the tranny, it's still spinning at the RPM you were in before in the higher gear..when you gas it in N with the clutch out you bring the speed of the input shaft up so that the next gear engages easier. not really necessary at all anymore, since synchros are pretty tough these days.

I saw the cars they used at NOPI. The eclipse had a carbon fiber sticker on the hood. It may have just been a replica tho
