View Full Version : Greddy turbo at the Dragsrip - 13.9sec
adrian-1 08-18-2005, 06:09 PM Well, not much of an improvement from my 14.0sec run last month (untuned and leak).
I'm having problems holding boost. I think it's due to the 8's computer "learning" and changing the fuel trim which makes my tuned map worthless.
6psi boost spike then 3psi holding boost after 6k rpms.
I'm getting the Interceptor X EMS next month and I'll revisit the track then.
To read the Greddy E-01 graph at the end... the bottom left number is boost, middle is rpm's and right is throttle position (100% is WOT).

Mugatu 08-18-2005, 06:15 PM unfortunately these results are proving that the turbo is not worth the money. the rx8 is too smart and intrusive and doesn't allow for big gains without remapping air/fuel.
adrian-1 08-18-2005, 06:36 PM Although the turbo is small and can't handle alot of boost, it isn't the problem. The blue emanage is not up to the task of controlling the extra fuel needed without the 8's ecu changing it in the future.
We'll see how the interceptor X improves my performance/ times. Again, these times are basically with 3psi boost.
cas2themoe 08-18-2005, 07:18 PM You need more boost man! Wheres the guys that messed with the EMS the other day here on the forums? LOL He was busting ass on the Dyno! 291HP and 249lbs of Torque! I'd bet that car will bust some ass on a track. :D
I just think you need someone to tune your car a bit better.
cas2themoe 08-18-2005, 07:20 PM Here they did it http://www.mazsport.net/html/index.html

That is what he said he bought... It comes next month.
XDEEDUBBX 08-18-2005, 07:51 PM congrats on 13.9
Moostafa29 08-18-2005, 07:59 PM I'm sure you'll do much better with the interceptor. But at least you broke 13.
Fanman 08-18-2005, 08:09 PM Yeah 6 & 3 are not good. Try adjusting your actuator rod. I'm at 7.5 & 5.5 right now...after the adjustment.
sfRXgr8 08-19-2005, 04:38 PM I'm not trying to get flamed.. but..
Is the quarter mile really that important? My GTA runs 11 1/2 in the 1/4, and it's got a live rear axle, doesn't handle all that well (especially in comparison) and is ultra-fidgety on the throttle. By comparison, my 8 isn't the quickest, but can literally run circles around the GTA. And it's more comfortable. And it looks better (more modern anyway), and it's millions times higher quality. For the 1/4... should it be that important to us?

Of course not for everyone, no. But some people like all the attributes of the RX-8 and want it to be fast in a straight-line too.
Even if you put the RX-8 more at home on an actual track, 1/4-mile times and traps are important for corner exit speeds.
DreRX8 08-19-2005, 05:16 PM What cars were you up against that ran the 11 and the 14.5? I think that a tuned Greddy Turbo 8 is good for stock FD times--if the ECU can be overcome--sounds like its time to play with the interceptor.

It's already adjusted 1 full turn. I'd rather use the boost controller to increase the boost.

The 14.5 was an older mustang and I'm not sure what the 11sec car was, maybe an eagle talon (heavily modified).
cleoent 08-19-2005, 11:15 PM what are you launching at in that video?
Fanman 08-20-2005, 01:33 AM Didn't know you got the BC. If you have a boost controller, then go for it. What were you running when you were stock ? A change of say 15.0 to 13.9 would be nice. A change of 14.5 to 13.9 would not be nice.
adrian-1 08-20-2005, 05:56 AM I launch around 6,800-7,000. Feather it til I get traction then floor it.
My best time stock was 15.0, so a 1 sec improvement is really good. Of course my other mods, besides my 3psi turbo, help also..... 17" wheels, falken rt-615s, upgraded clutch, rb flywheel, rp hiflow cat, etc.
The car has so much more potential. Can't wait to get the Interceptor X and get the turbo running better.

Yo Adrian...
Bro u need to work on those reaction times! Getting some real slicks would also
improve a bit. I bet you could actually hit low 13's if u did.
With the X chip you sure as hell shouldn't have problems hitting low 13's.
But if u work on those reaction times... you may even end up with a high 12.

You are SO right.
How many times have you been to a dragstrip?
Those only matter in bracket racing, which I wasn't doing. On test and tune the reaction times mean nothing. I sometimes wait 2-3secs AFTER the green if the car next to me is insanely loud.
Kel Rx8 08-23-2005, 12:22 AM congrats on 13.9
next prediction 13.43@101 :)
