View Full Version : Can I modify my AT? futurebadger07 03-27-2005, 09:49 PM I have the 197hp AT RX8 and want to modify my engine to about 300-350 HP... is this possible? and if so... how? vdelvec 03-27-2005, 10:03 PM I'm thinking maybe you could get it up to 250-260 MAYBE but even then it would take a lot of money and work. chinx 03-27-2005, 10:19 PM greddy has a turbo kit. re-amemiya also has a turbo kit, specifically for the AT. 300~350hp, why? snizzle 03-27-2005, 10:27 PM No data to back this up, but I don't think the AT would take this power w/o major modifications to the drivetrain. There is a reason we didn't get the high power engine out of the gates. The turbos coming out sound good, but will probably only bring you up to the power that MT has stock. crossbow 03-28-2005, 07:18 AM Add a transmission cooler. Best mod in the universe for an ATX. my10ae 03-28-2005, 08:33 AM Add a transmission cooler. Best mod in the universe for an ATX. Is this a hard install and at what cost? I've already installed a CZ unit to my auto, K&N intake, and most recently a Borla exhaust. Sounds great and has a bit more power than a stock auto 8. crossbow 03-28-2005, 08:52 AM Most stacked plate coolers are around 45-50 bucks. You'll usually need a few extra feet of 11/32nd hose, and some nicer clamps. So around 60 bucks. Difficulty of the install is based on where the stock radiator cooler hoses are running, and the distance to the transmission. sohcpunk 03-28-2005, 07:59 PM how did you get the CZ unit to work with your auto? DreRX8 03-29-2005, 07:27 AM Where can I go get the AT tranny cooler installed? snizzle 03-29-2005, 08:39 AM I've already installed a CZ unit to my auto Whuuuuuuuuuuu?!?!? I've been waiting for developments on this. I hadn't heard that someone had figured out how to use it on an AT. my10ae 03-29-2005, 08:54 AM Guys: Please follow this link to the CZ unit and using with auto 8's: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=49665 snizzle 03-29-2005, 11:31 AM Guys: Please follow this link to the CZ unit and using with auto 8's: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=49665 Just checked out the thread and replied. I think it's great that you guys are pioneering such a development. Btw, was the AT tranny cooler hard to install? Will Mazda void my warranty if they see it during a checkup? JeRKy 8 Owner 03-29-2005, 09:04 PM If I install a transmission cooler will the service techs bitch aboutit and void my warranty? crossbow 03-29-2005, 09:10 PM Not as long as you install it "in-line" with the stock radiator cooler. The stock cooler heats the fluid (preventing it from being overcooled) while the stacked plate keeps it at 180F-160F, right in the sweet spot. You can always talk to your dealership before hand about it. Its a longevity/consistency mod. It greatly extends the life of the transmission, and allows for more consistent shifting as heat is kept in check.
