View Full Version : anyone think of a 4 port turbo with a manual tranny?
guitarjunkie28 01-24-2005, 02:57 PM well, all the older turbo motors were 4 port. i guess they don't need as much timing with forced induction.
if someone wants to try, i'm down for donating time and labor to see what happens.

Not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean you want to drop a REW in an 8? Not sure if you can change the Renesis from 6 ports to 4 ports.
army_rx8 01-24-2005, 03:51 PM i think he means put a 6spd tranny in a 4port 13b-msp and then add a turbo. at least that's what i gathered from it.
DreRX8 01-24-2005, 03:58 PM Or the just turbo charge the Eurospec 5spd Manual 4-ports.
zoom44 01-24-2005, 03:59 PM there is a 5 speed manual available in other countries on the low power 4port RX-8. his question is has someone turbo'ed one of those yet. or has someone in the us swapped out the auto for a 4-5-6 speed manual in the states and done a turbo.
to my knowledge this hasnt been done.
guitarjunkie28 01-24-2005, 04:38 PM no, i mean use the 4 port motor from the auto, turbo charge it, then use a manual tranny
Aoshi Shinomori 01-24-2005, 04:40 PM no, i mean use the 4 port motor from the auto, turbo charge it, then use a manual tranny
I think they have in Canada and everywhere else in the world, the setup of the low power 4 port hooked up to a 5 speed manual. Maybe Hymee or Gomez or Japan 8 could let us know if anyone from outside the U.S. has turboed the 4 port.

that's what i said in my second sentece:D
guitarjunkie28 01-24-2005, 07:13 PM ^ maybe i just wasn't paying attention, but i swear i didn't see that post before :p:
i wonder how it would do...
army_rx8 01-24-2005, 07:16 PM ^^hey i said that to:( no one ever give me props...lol j/k:p
DreRX8 01-24-2005, 07:20 PM Well--Re-Amemiya has the only turbo for the 4-port that I know of so far--it says it is for the A/T but I'm sure it would work with the 5spd manual 4-port as well.

NO 4-port turbo in japan except for the test mule by Greddy/RE Amemiya...

Isn't that kit for sale though?
guitarjunkie28 01-25-2005, 12:18 PM this is why i need an rx8. i'd go cracky with a mig and build one myself.
therm8 01-25-2005, 02:04 PM Isn't that kit for sale though?
Yep for the low low price of $5000. (/sarcasm)
guitarjunkie28 01-25-2005, 04:17 PM i haven't seen any of the 4 port motors up close. would the greedy turbo kit bolt up to it?
therm8 01-25-2005, 04:34 PM From appearance alone, the Re Amemiya kit for the 4 port looks identical to the Greddy kit(comes with 2 extra injectors, possibly to replace the secondaries?). Difficult to find any specifics though. When my warranty is up, if there are no kits tuned for the auto, I'll probably buy the Greddy 6MT kit and tune it myself.
guitarjunkie28 01-26-2005, 12:40 AM from the dyno sheets i've seen, it looks like the 6 port motors aren't done making power with the primary and secondary ports when the aux. ports open. i say hog them out a little more and forget the aux. ports.
for motors of equal power, i'd rather get there at 7k instead of 8500

Oh--thats all--I thought you were talkin bouwt somethin' I got that in between my couch cushions. 'then I came back to reality :( '
In all actuality if there are no decent kits for the 4-port when my warranty is up-I'll probably trade it for the SMG or 6spd 6-port--unless I go Porsche I think I'm gonna stay in the rotary fam for a while.
guitarjunkie28 01-26-2005, 12:31 PM the way i see it, rotaries have the most untapped potential of any production motor.
i more than doubled the power of my fc, and it got better gas milage than stock (before the bridgeport). the emissions nazis didn't like me though :p:
