I have a 2005 RX8 with an Automatic Transmission and although it has plenty "get up and go" there is plenty of room for improvement. Has anyone had any experience with the K&N Intake in a "auto" RX-8. I need to get some more RPM's or look at a trade to a 6-speed. Can the auto be taken out and replaced with a 6 speed?

 

do a search on this topic--as far as a 6speed swap--no. The engines are different--the A/t is a 4-port while the 6spd is a 6-port. There is a 5spd tranny available with the 4-port in Japan and Europe so that could be an option; but really pointless considering cost. You'd be better off waiting on the rumoured SMG and/or auto tranny for 6-port supposedly coming on/about 2006. Bolt ons such as intake and exhaust will maybe net you 10 hp if that; if you go for intake wait on Racing Beats intake to be available. There are a couple of auto owners tuning the Canzoomer unit and have seen some pretty good gains; however it is an ongoing project. The greddy kit also works with the auto albeit with a different engine management unit than the one that is supplied. A Greddy turboed A/T RX8 is pulling mid 6 second passes to 60 versus the mid 8 second passes. RE Amemiya has a turbo kit for the auto RX8; however I don't think it is available in the states yet. If you don't care about voiding your warranty and you want to mod your current auto 8 then go ahead and boost it. Otherwise trade it in on the 6 speed or wait on better auto trannies to come out in 2006-beyond.
