Seems the rx-8 and renesis started as 280 hp
then became 250 hp - as touted
then to 238 hp - as sold
and dyno at what? 220hp?

Did Mazda just drop a 1995 mspre into
the RX-8 with 220 hp@8500 and 159T@5500

 

the mspre 95 was never sold, the numbers are mazda's creation. it is however the prototype for what became the renesis. the path went 220(mspre)-280(rx-evolv)-250(rx8 #1)-238(rx8 #2, which is really more like 220).

the engine was detuned due to emissions regulations regarding the catalytic coverter's lifespan.

 

Too bad we can't opt to replace the cat every year for the added ponies.

that's what stage 1 is for!

(and it reduces cat life to a hypothetical 50k miles, which isn't all that bad)

I don't think the theory is 'flawed', but it is strange that the RX-8 HP is what themspre was in 1995.
Probably only minor variations between mspre and renesis.

 

The theory is flawed, because it implies that Mazda has done almost no development to the rotary since 1995.

 

It was aliens, they brainwashed Mazda engineers into putting a low HP engine into the RX-8 as to disgruntle owners in an attempt to shake the world in order to take over all racing events.

Maybe the aliens left the 250 HP rotary in your RX-8!

Mine was left with the 'rotary of the year' model.

Wish those aliens would have reduced the fuel usage when they reduced the HP :D

 

by mazda doing what they did, they reduced power and increased consumption!

instead of just putting a better CAT on the car...goddamn cost models
