Hey all,

I am about to close a deal on a used 2004 RX8 for $20,500, not including tax.
The car is a 6speed, with all the options, minus navi and 28k miles.
Does that seem like a good price or can I do better. To me, it seems like a great deal? Thanks all! And I hope to join this forum real soon!

Have you priced it on KelleyBlueBook.com

KBB says $27,000 for my zip code - which sounds like an outrageously high amount ... but, OK ... :)

Yes, $20K sounds like a nice deal. 28K miles seems like a lot, but probably all highway, so the car was most likely gently used -

I think thats a pretty good deal. At the dealership there is a black rx8 6m and it has 25K and this guy is selling it for $25,000. Tho 28K miles is pretty high.

Yeah, the price is fair I think...but I don't like the miles on it. When was it made? If it came out in the Summer of 2003 the miles would look a little better.

But, the price is pretty good...

Honestly, I'd be more scared of a car that's been in service for 12 months and accumulated 3000 miles than a car that's been in service for 12 months and accumulated 28,000 miles. Those miles have to be all highway - smooth, steady-state cruising, rather than corrosion-and-wear-inducing short trips.

Check the in-service date (when was it originally purchased?) and verify the build date. If you can find the owner to chat with him, even better.

AND have it inspected by a quality mechanic before you buy it. Make sure it hasn't been in a catastrophic crash or anything ...

The car is at a Lexus dealer and has a clean car fax, so I am not worried about accidents/flood.

Can I tell when the car was built by the VIN? i.e. a low ending VIN number=early build date?

Here is the VIN: JM1FE173040100512

Thanks all

It's the last 5 digits that tells you what you need to know. The current "new" cars have over 30,000. Yours is 512 :)

So basically it was a very early build, which makes me feel better about the miles.
Sounds like I'll be joining the RX8 family Monday!

Sounds like a good deal. Don't forget to do a vehicle check report on this car.

Yeah, that low of a number sounds like a pre-order. See if you can get a long test drive. Then fill the car up and calculate the mpg. Anything over 16 is good. If the car has the low mpg issues, you're not going to be happy.
