Hi, all. I am about to pop for an RX-8. I have been reading about the relatively poor fuel economy. I am currently driving a Honda Insight hybrid, and have been impressed by how the real time fuel economy bar graph has trained my foot. I was thinking that since Mazda has not seen fit to install a fuel totalizer in the RX-8, what could I put in that would help lower the fuel cost.

Then I remembered that years ago, we used to have a manifold pressure (vacuum) gauge that could be used as a very informative guide to keep the fuel consumption down.

Does the rotary engine the RX-8 have enough manifold vacuum to be used like this? Anyone tried this before?

Thanks for the great info on this site.

Mazda putting a fuel economy meter in the 8 would be like Anna Nicole tatooing her weight on her ass. Just plain embarassing.
