Blacknightz 01-02-2011, 12:47 PM Hmmmzz... Looks decent enough...
Not sure about the price though... Have to see the materials inside the exhaust...
L337fpc 01-05-2011, 09:53 AM any videos of the exhaust? also, what is the material inside the muffler?
Race Roots 01-05-2011, 10:06 AM any videos of the exhaust? also, what is the material inside the muffler?
Here is a link to the other thread that is in the Aftermarket section. I will say the video posted does not sound the same in person.

The muffler is of Stainless Steel through out.
WAR CRUNK 01-05-2011, 12:07 PM very nice

Race Roots 01-10-2011, 10:52 AM wish i can be therez to witness the sound :(
I had 2 more ship out this week, one going to Canada so hopefully they will post up their impressions as well on the sound.
Z0oMzo0m 01-10-2011, 11:35 AM its been almost if not 2 weeks now since its been on my car, The loudness is toned down a bit. You can accelerate in town without creeping through the gears. lol. Under WOT is where the sound really roars.
Now the tone without WOT, has a deep note to it and sounds awesome (have'nt had a complaint at a light for being loud or anything)
I do expect the exhaust to quiet down a little more then what it has already.

Nadrealista 04-21-2011, 09:25 AM need to know how loud will this be mated to my mazsport midpipe(pretty quiet, dual resonated)..car is tracked but also daily driven quite often.
Is there drone at highway speeds?
How loud is it scooting around town in the 1-4k rpm range?
Is it louder than turboxs catback?
can you make an in car video of regular round town driving?

boffam 10-12-2011, 08:22 AM Well I have had this system on my car for a few weeks.
The install went smoothly, although a new spring kit and donut had to be ordered for the connection to the factory cat pipe because my old ones were rusted all to hell.
Previously, my stock system had rusted completely apart at the joint between the intermediate pipe and muffler, and the car as you can imagine was very loud. With the RR system it is not much quieter! (I am still running an intact stock cat).
The RR system takes the hard edge off the exhaust sound, but preserves all the pops and burbles that I fell in love with with the busted stock system. Also, since the exhaust is exiting from the back of the car rather than underneath the car, there is a lot more echo off walls and other cars and the like. The sound is sensational, overall. Looks cool, too.
Unfortunately, the exhaust does drone significantly in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range where I spend a lot of time. Although blasting the stereo covers it up pretty well, it is a good thing that this car will soon be retired from daily driver duty.
I am a little concerned that the cops will object to the volume, and I hope I don't run afoul of the sound police at my next autocross.
One thing that is notable is that the volume level is reasonable when I first start the car but gets way louder once the car heats up. Is this normal?
Overall, I am satisfied. The quality is great and the transaction and shipping went smoothly. Just be aware that your car will be LOUD. :Eyecrazy:
Dave13B 10-26-2011, 01:43 PM just placed my order :)
Race Roots 10-26-2011, 03:16 PM Shipping out today!
Dave13B 10-26-2011, 07:55 PM Ill make sure to post a video and review :D
alexisonfire 10-28-2011, 11:51 PM I've been meaning to post a review of this exhaust for a while. I bought this exhaust maybe 2 months ago, shipping was fast, no complaints at all. The packaging was perfect, and I spent my day at work drooling over it :yumyum:
The exhaust is super light too, it's perfect as far as saving weight compared to the ridiculously heavy stock catback.
Install was pretty smooth, I put it on then went to a local car meet the same night :D:
The ride there was awesome, I went from a Turboxs with the race pipe, back to stock, then to this, and this one is just perfect personally. It has a perfect sound level, not too loud, not quiet either.
Here's a vid, sorry for it being so short and in a mall parking garage lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_rYVPp7SnA
All in all, I'd recommend anyone to get this exhaust if you don't care about aesthetics since its a single
Di12ekT 10-29-2011, 02:14 AM Got mine a couple months back with the AP DR mid pipe and sounds great. Except the adjustable tip gets kinda lose and causes a rattle from the exhaust 2k-3k rpm anyone else get a rattle from the single?
Z0oMzo0m 10-29-2011, 07:55 AM no rattle from mine, it tightened up ok.
dafiro03 11-18-2011, 01:49 PM Just ordered mine whats the shipping time to 07204??

any complaints about this exhaust melting shrouds? I want to shed the weight but don't wan't to be replacing shrouds.
Negative, the Tips are not as huge as other exhaust systems so no worries there.
6speedwonder 12-18-2011, 10:35 PM order placed, stoked to get the exhaust on! Any future discounts for raving reviews and youtube videos demonstrating the awesomeness? ;-)
Race Roots 12-19-2011, 11:31 AM Haha not at this time :), shipping out today!
EricB 12-25-2011, 12:48 AM placing my order sometime within the next few days! christmas money ftw
jimtaylor89 12-27-2011, 12:44 AM so... i put mine on today and i did not come with any gaskets or hardwere like in the photos and my tip dose not stick out far enough and im melting my exhaust shroud... :Wconfused in other words not what i expected... i would not recommend this based off of my experience.. but other than the melting ( and what i think it should come with)
IT SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!!!!
yomomspimp06 12-27-2011, 04:35 PM ^ could you take pictures/vids of the fitment and sound?
jimtaylor89 12-28-2011, 02:42 AM sure i will attempt tomorrow during my brake upgrade :)
Z0oMzo0m 12-28-2011, 11:58 AM Jim, I wonder if its cause you have s2. The tip should stick out plenty . And for not having gaskets, that's odd. You get a hold of him?

Should email me so I can take care of it. So in essence you installed it without gaskets?
Also to confirm do you have a S2?

umm.. well i might have made one and had to buy studs and bolts for the install and as far as that pic goes thats just one of the best looking 8's in my opinion. i have a series 1 in sunlight silver also i look at others who had this exhaust and my tip dose not look as long as theirs.. did you use me as some sort of experiment?
also sry i was super busy will have to take pics later in the week and put up a vid of flames..

No experiment, same as everyone else's. I am thinking you may have installed the tip incorrectly because it should be no where near the shroud. If you can take pics we can see where the problem is and we can get it corrected for you.
EricB 12-29-2011, 03:15 PM just ordered mine :)
Erajk 12-29-2011, 04:51 PM We have 95db on swedish tracks :( do you think your exhaust will make it with a resonated midpipe? :)

maybe thats why.. because you dont have a tip? hopefully mine comes with everything

ya honestly thats the only problem other than that i like it but it dose cause your check eng light to come on bc the ecu cannot tottaly cope with the loss of back pressure and if you let your car idle for a while it gets kinda rough, but then again i have the rb dual resonated mid as well. i might have to get a cobb tuner to fix that..
Race Roots 12-30-2011, 11:06 AM We have 95db on swedish tracks :( do you think your exhaust will make it with a resonated midpipe? :)

Probably not. Possibly if used with a catalytic converter. Shoot me a pm with your zipcode and I can quote you shipping.
sure you could send me a tip to start with.. oh and some gaskets i made one out of rtv...:naughty:
No tip!?!?!!? There was no little brown box? if so that explains everything I could have sworn that I put that box in there. It has the tip, hardware and gaskets....

You sir, are a compete idiot. First off why the hell would you install an exhaust without all the parts. Would you put in an engine without everything installed correctly...oh wait yes you probably would.
Second, do you even understand anything about exhaust, loss of back pressure causes the CEL to come on?!?!
With your level of intelligence you shouldn't try to install anything yourself, you are clearly a danger to yourself, and probably everyone around you.

1.3_LittersOfFurry 12-31-2011, 07:11 PM I've been looking at this exhaust for awhile now.
Couldn't wait any longer, placed a order for the cat back and some EVO-R endlinks. Can't wait to get them! :ylsuper:

Can you please double check the big box that the exhaust came in, there should be a 6x4x6 box with the Tip, gaskets and hardware in there. I just double checked my inventory and I am not extra those above items so the items were sent in that box. I know the box can be lost in the sea of packing peanuts.
comebackqid 01-02-2012, 02:23 AM I'm really considering this exhaust, but I was wondering if a dual is more quiet I heard single exit is louder? is this true? I live in california so I would like a fairly quiet exhaust cops out here hate pretty much anything that isn't domestic and from 30+ years ago

That's cool, I still got to get some shocks before I install anything.
Looking forward to hearing this exhaust on my car. :smoker:

jimtaylor89 01-04-2012, 06:09 AM wow ok you sir are an ass for one and i understand more than you ever will.. with the loss of back pressure the ecu cannot fully correct the fuel mapping for the loss of back pressure so.. you have to change you fuel mapping to do just that thats were cobb comes in for the light stuff and no i would not do an install with out all the parts that i needed the thermal resistant rtv was a good temporary fix for the gasket until i had one made and i had bought the proper hard wear before hand as well, but honestly if your just going to be an ass on here before you have any facts straight just dont post anything at all if you have a problem pm me and we can talk.

trust me i checked.. the box probally busted opened at some point during shipping and that little box might have fell out, either way i have it covered i did some measuring and contacted my engineering department while i was at work and they had the fabrication shop make me some gaskets and a tip in their spare time and it looks just the same as those in the pics that are supposed to come with the kit, even with the nice little blue tipping :)

:rollingla I suggest you do some major searching and reading and you will learn how stupid you are making yourself look.
Sorry Brice we don't mean to jack your thread but this guy is just too much. Back to the subject at hand, I really want your exhaust. Unfortunately the money I could have used to get it I ended up getting a whole new fuel pump assembly. When I do get around to it though I'd like to dyno this with a before and after comparison with the stock exhaust with mid pipe with all my other mods and will gladly post my results. I'll contact you about it later and maybe you can point me to a reputable dyno in the area.

A dyno in PSL? Where? The closest one I found was in Melbourne. Do you know what kind of equipment they have?
Z0oMzo0m 01-05-2012, 03:48 AM was an old friend, hes had it for years. your just looking for numbers so it would be ok, if you were doing any tunning id stay away. we call him Honda tom. basically what he covers.
but i couldn't tell you what equipment, i just know i pull my car up on it and accel. lol
i think he charges 60.00 for a few pulls. but i could be wrong its been awhile. if your interested let me know. i can try and get a hold of him
Race Roots 01-10-2012, 10:41 AM I am down to 2 exhausts in stock and ready to ship.
Johnvx1k 01-10-2012, 11:39 AM I posted this on the other thread for this exhaust, but I'll put it up here since I see people asking for videos. I love the exhaust. Didn't have any problems installing and its been good ever since.

1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-14-2012, 06:40 PM Exhaust came in yesterday, looks like everything is here. Should be installing Monday or Tuesday. Thanks Brice.
yomomspimp06 01-15-2012, 09:42 AM hurry! I wanna hear the sound with the gutted cat
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-15-2012, 10:15 AM I'll post a video when I get it on. Might try to install it today if I got enough daylight after work. Gf already bitching cause I got it laid out in the living room and I won't let her move it. Lol
yomomspimp06 01-15-2012, 04:46 PM ^haha
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-15-2012, 10:15 PM Got it on!
Ran into a few problems, none were the cat-back's fault though.
Broke both of the spring bolts, and for some reason the nuts were welded or something to the flange. We had to drill the holes out which was not fun at all. But now it's on. :D:
So, my opinion, the quality is great. Came with everything needed to install.
It's LOUD, very loud, but it sounds BAD-ASS, very bad-ass. Within 5 mins of starting it up to let it warm up I had 4 random people around the back of the car. After I got the tools picked up I went go give it a rev, by request, and then camera phones started popping up lol. Here are two clips I got off them, sorry for some reason the second clip didn't record sound. I'll post a better one in a few days.

Race Roots 01-16-2012, 10:40 AM 1 exhaust left until next month.
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-18-2012, 12:05 PM So 2 very small issues since the install.
1. Melted part of the exhaust shroud, but not bad and I was able to trim it away from the pipe and seems to be doing well now. It's the back part of the shroud, so you can't even tell I cut it.
2. Got a rattle at idle, sometimes. It looks like the pipe is hitting the frame by the diff. Maybe some header wrap around that area might fix the problem...
It has gotten a little quieter now that I fixed a leak. Still very happy with it. Waiting for a good day off to make a video still.

I have that rattle too, thanks for identifying where its coming from for me so i dont have to jack the car up :)
i heard somewhere the excessive use of wd40 can cause the hangers to slide around, i used pounds of that stuff getting the stock exhaust off:rollingla
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-18-2012, 03:50 PM Well I wish I knew about that wd40 trick lol. I caught 7 kinds of hell taking the oem muffler off the hangers.
I might try to "stretch" that hanger by the diff. Didn't have a rattle problem till I finally got that hanger on.

mine has never seen snow
cant imagine how a rx8 that has seen snow must have been.
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-18-2012, 09:27 PM ^ Snow?
What is this snow you speak of?
Johnvx1k 01-19-2012, 08:53 PM Ok good I am not the only one with the rattle. I'll have to fix that this weekend when I'm installing my RB Midpipe. With the hangers I found it easier to just use dish soap.
Z0oMzo0m 01-19-2012, 09:20 PM i have had it on for a year, and i have no idea what rattle you guys speak of.. lol i havent had anything, besides my inner side of the shroud melt a little bit. but not visible from behind car.
Johnvx1k 01-20-2012, 11:50 AM Well I haven't had any problems with the exhaust shroud. I haven't noticed it at least, maybe I should check. I've had the exhaust for about half a year. I didn't notice the rattle until I made a video for the exhaust and heard it through the camera. Sounds pretty crazy higher in the rpm band. Maybe Z0oMzo0m just used some magic to install it different than I?
redline86 01-23-2012, 09:49 PM Ok so some of you guys got a rattle but not everyone, and some had issues with the shrouds. Could this just be a user install issue mabe or just variations in the product? I've heard some people had a lot of issues with the Agency power exhaust, but others had none. Just curious because I'd like to support a local vendor that seems to have a great product, but for 150 more I can get the HKS that I have yet to hear one bad thing about.

I have a rattle at idle that would probly be fixed by wrapping the part thats moving but i need to jack the car for that and i dont feel like it lol. I think its gotten worse between since i last posted about it and now.
when i first noticed it... I set my bose to level 2 volume and it covered it
Today driving home i had to set it at 4.
I have yet to check my shrouds but i dont think it is much of an issue.
I think the rattle may be from excess wd40 :p: ill have to jack the car up when it gets warmer to diagnose this.
The rattle im hearing sounds as if it is coming to the left of my driver side door or the door itself but when i put pressure on the door it doesnt stop, i think it may just be hitting something and sound is traveling.
Note the rattle im hearing is only coming on at idle and any gas and i mean anything applied will make it go away.
RRSingle and HKS Hi Power are very similar in design, i think the Hi Power might be lighter (Brice do you confirm?) but i dont think by much, and it doesnt matter to me because im not tracking my rx8 hardcore where i need the few lb difference... Also noting that since they are very similar in design they both give off very similar tones that you wouldnt be able to tell unless revved side by side.
What i dont like about the hks is that their tip doesnt say HKS on it or anything, for anyone knows it could be a ebay exhaust. Though i think the hks tip is a Ti where the RR is a Ti painted finish on Stainless steel.
These things are what make up if the +$150 is worth it to you.

Really hard to tell on each customers installed application. I have seen that the exhaust hangers play a huge role, so if a customers is more worn and flexible more movement would occur.
Replacing those hangers with Poly would be a solution to reduce the movement of the exhaust.
1.3_LittersOfFurry 01-24-2012, 02:22 PM ^ Brice, mine seems to be more the hanger is holding it to high (to close) to the frame near the diff. I had no rattle till a day or 2 later when I finally put that last hanger on by the diff.
I plan on fixing it, just not now. I've been super lazy since installing it.

Thats would make a lot of sense. Some of these guys could have hangers that are 8 years old. I will def. replace them at the same time with a new exhaust.
Could that play in movement also be the cause of melted shrouds?
Either way, RR or HKS I'm gonna purchase it through you. Everyone who has it seems to be happy with the over all build quality and the sound. I'm just nit picking on the fine details thats all.
Z0oMzo0m 01-24-2012, 07:17 PM Redline, I have it and im close to Vero, we can meet up sometime and you can see what it looks like in person, sounds may little different due to my midpipe but you will get the idea :) let me know
Shoot me a Pm, and i can give you my number

Pm'd, I have the same mid pipe so that would really give me a good idea of how it sounds and that way I can get a good look at it as well.
firecran 01-24-2012, 08:55 PM No problems at all with mine....I highly recommend it.
Also, I really like being different with the single tip design.

That is a sexy VR RX8 in your lower picture, oh wait thats mine :hahano:. I should have payed more attention to your exhaust on that day but that was the last thing on my mind at the time. I'll check it out on Zoom's.
firecran 01-24-2012, 09:23 PM ^
I'll be at the Orlando AutoX on the 4th.... Hope you can make it.
It was a great event.

The tip is certainly not painted, it is blue burnt stainless steel.
The melted shrouds would be on any exhaust really so I don't believe it to be the movement, it really occurs on the inside of the shroud so it is hard to see. It occurs because of the increase in diameter on tip.

Yeah the description said blue burnt tip but figured I'd ask just to make sure. Since the tip is extendable, if you extend the tip out as much as possible (haven't seen the exhaust yet so not sure how adjustable the tip is) would that help vent the heat from the exhaust and reduce the amount or chance that the shrouds would melt?
If you can't notice it then it wouldn't bother me but I've heard from several people with the agency power melting the $h!t out of their shrouds. I'm actually selling my old ones to a guy with the AP and his melted but prob. due to a clogged cat.
I should be meeting up with ZoomZoom tomorrow to look at his.
redline86 01-26-2012, 06:02 PM Got to actually see and listen to the exhaust today. It sounds awesome, it's loud but not to loud, has a great tone. I saw where zooms shroud melted a little but he had to point it out to me and I had to get down and actually look into, towards the back of the shroud to see it. Wouldn't have ever known if he hadn't pointed it out. I've found my new exhaust. Will be purchasing it mid febuary, thanks for all the imput brice and thanks once again zoom.
Z0oMzo0m 01-26-2012, 08:57 PM Not a problem man!
Reed7742 01-31-2012, 06:36 PM I think I've finally decided on my exhaust. I will be ordering as soon as I get my tax refund in. Will be within a week or two. What is the est wait time on a mid-pipe and cat-back if when I do finally order they will be back ordered. Thanks for any info.

"We are going to be releasing a mazdaspeed style single exit add on lip so it eliminates the empty space. I have talked to the manufacturer already so this is going to happen by next spring most likely."
So is this still in the works cause I am very interested

You could have read this thread or even <shudder> go to their website for the answer: http://raceroots.com/index.php/products/mazda/rx8/exhaust/rr-single-exit-exhaust.html

Hm well I already looked at the website, this thread, and the other thread. The only mention of it was the section I quoted from the other thread. Are you seeing somthin I'm not?

Looking forward to placing my order and getting my exhaust.
1.3_LittersOfFurry 02-01-2012, 08:59 PM Update on rattle,
It appears I may have a unique issue. I finally got the car on a lift, armed with hangers to replace them all, but I found the problem, it's not the hangers. It seems the pipe passes to close to the passenger side of the "tunnel", so close it's almost touching the heat shield for the fuel tank. Once the pipe passes the diff, it ever so slightly taps on the part of the frame that goes down towards the suspension. I tried to move the pipe around, but that seems to be it's "natural resting position"? All exhaust flanges good.
I went run back to AZ and got some header wrap and wrapped the pipe by the diff for now. No rattles anymore. But still going to bring it to an exhaust shop and see if maybe I can get the pipe bent to fit better.

Apologies. I assumed since some had the unit and it was listed on RR's site, that it was actually available. That appears not to be the case. My bad.

It's all good! Yeah I have the unit too and I haven't heard anything about it for awhile. Last I heard was it would maybe be available this spring. Guess I'll just wait a little longer.
olddragger 02-04-2012, 09:07 AM this may be for me. I am currently running one of the first 5 racing beat cat backs made. installed mid 2004--i think--dang thing is still doing good/tips still good, but after 8 years I need a change. Will not hurt to lost a little weight either.

this is definately for u man...
u can make a fake pipe and extend it to the other side to make it look balanced ;)
redline86 02-17-2012, 10:39 AM I ended up getting a good deal on the HKS out of state to avoid florida sales tax. Did buy the mounts though, I had those put on before the exhaust arrived and I was amazed by the difference. Sound wise I could not tell the difference between the Raceroots and the HKS.
The single exit tone is wonderful, but it does vibrate my brains when I get on it, I'm getting a silencer to go in the exhaust to tame it a little, it's very loud. The cheep agency power mid pipe actually sounds good with the single exit exhaust. It sounded like crap on the stock exhaust, or the exhaust is so loud I can't hear the rasp anymore.
Single exit exhaust in my opinion has the best tone out of any of the dual systems that I've heard. Can' tell the difference between the RR and the HKS, I really only payed the extra for the bling of the titanium (I love shiny things) tip.
Everyone who wants to save some weight and doesn't mind the exotic look of the single tip should snatch up RR exhaust when they come back in stock. Well worth the money.
Reed7742 03-30-2012, 11:39 AM Is there an update as to when these will be back from the manfacturing plant? I ordered mine at the end of February. I'm excited to finally get mine installed on the car.

Just got an update back from them today and they are expecting another 3-4 weeks before completion. The bad news besides the delay is that there will be a price increase when these arrive, the good news is that customers that have already prepaid the $350 price point will get it at the price point and I will NOT charge more due to extended wait times.
The price increase comes from added expenses for shipping costs and we will see the price change when these arrive and are ready to ship.
