I left work today and was heading to get some Subway (trying to drop some pounds, not fast enough autocrossing).
Than this happened...

Far as details. Im being very vague till all this goes through.
I stopped at a yellow light and was stopped still and a guy thought I was going for it and didnt realize how great the Rx8 brakes are. I had about a second or two dead stop before I heard him on the brakes. Looked up saw him coming right for me, said "Fuck me". BANG! My current state is im able to type this atm, leave it at that. Hope it can be repaired and they dont total it out. If they do I hope I can strip the mods off. If you have advice PM me.
Mazurfer 08-04-2010, 07:41 PM Ouch! You okay....any whiplash?
What the hell hit you!
Were you stopped?
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.
http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=160384&d=1280969388
dondo 08-04-2010, 07:42 PM Ouch!!!!!!!!!!
that makes you 2nd wreck....
hope you are ok
faith&firepower 08-04-2010, 07:48 PM Looks like you need to find a new hobby.....and that'll buff right out! Sorry bro, I hope it can be fixed.
FoxeyL8y 08-04-2010, 07:48 PM Holy Shit!
carbonRX8 08-04-2010, 07:53 PM Holy shit indeed.
RawrX8 08-04-2010, 08:14 PM Now the car won't even turn over so I can move it out of the driveway. On the way home the windows wouldn't move and the cluster did not work.
pdxhak 08-04-2010, 08:45 PM WHOA! Hope you are OK?!!
makristal 08-04-2010, 08:58 PM Glad to hear you can type (seeing how no other health report has been given). If it does total, they should give you market value for the car. If you paid it off, then you could potentially just get another one?
Hope you heal quickly though, sorry to hear this happened but am glad to hear that you are safe!
Atilla 08-04-2010, 09:14 PM holy shat! that looked like it sucked :( really sorry to see this happen. I hope you get everything worked out...
Red_Fox 08-04-2010, 09:20 PM dang that blows dude
DarkBrew 08-04-2010, 09:49 PM Sorry for your loss but at least you're okay.
Anijo 08-04-2010, 10:08 PM Oh man... go see a doctor asap and get a report.
tunerwannab 08-04-2010, 11:04 PM It will hurt worse tomarrow and the next day. Do not tell anyone you are fine or feel ok for at least a few days. Hope it all works out for you. Some lady hit my motorcycle today when it was parked too!
cjkim 08-04-2010, 11:32 PM Definitely get a lawyer. No need to involve yourself in insurance claims in this type of accident. (rear ends are pretty much cake for any lawyer)
Sorry to say, but I'm 99.9999999999999999999% sure that's totalled.
angeljoelv 08-04-2010, 11:44 PM That sucks..
I'll buy your rollbar if you deside to sell it.
mike[piston eater] 08-04-2010, 11:52 PM damn that really sux
FazdaRX_8 08-05-2010, 12:25 AM you hurt you neck and need a settlement!!!, if they do total you have two options, buy back for much cheaper, to have time to strip parts, or hope your insurance will give you time to take parts before its hauled off.
I am not a professional auto body guy, but with the car not starting, electrical issues, new trunk new bumper, new window, paint, and bending the sub frame, tail lights, and all the little shit, oh and did any airbags deploy?
I gonna say its totaled. if I where you I would get a neck brace and ware it while you take off your parts...
Lavious 08-05-2010, 12:39 AM Keep us updated.
ZumnRx8 08-05-2010, 12:53 AM :sadwavey:

^good advice
and +1 on the airbags question
RawrX8 08-05-2010, 01:14 AM Ill keep updates as they come. Most information about me and insurance routes ill be taking will be staying private till this is all figured out. Id rather not say something that could hinder anything legal.
Still out of it, pretty much sat and stared at my car for a good few hours today thinking when will I wake up?!
ZumnRx8 08-05-2010, 01:32 AM ^+1 been there.
TANKERG 08-05-2010, 07:16 AM So sorry to see that, good luck!!!
ShinkaTeen 08-05-2010, 08:32 AM wtf was that guy driving??
optimus prime?
patrick_andraste 08-05-2010, 09:40 AM I hope you are doing ok.
My Insurance company allowed me to strip out my mods in one of my past vehicles when it got totalled. Allstate. They also would let me buy the car back for the scrap value, 10 - 2-% of the payout.
I hope your insurance company is as nice.
and1kidd 08-05-2010, 10:59 AM ^^2nd that.
Hope you are ok.
X Rx8 08-05-2010, 01:10 PM Damn Hope your doing alright. Hope the damage is repairable I've been a fan of your 8
Anijo 08-05-2010, 01:22 PM That's fucked man... finally getting a chance to see the pictures from a computer instead of a phone. I texted Zack and his response was something like "That sucks! His car was sweet". Keep your head about you and yah, get a Lawyer.
If we do a Dick's meet next week to say goodbye to Erik, I'll text you and give you a ride if you want.
ThaiTea 08-05-2010, 03:10 PM Brad,
I hope you are in better shape than the car. Looking at the amount of crunch, you and the eight took quite an impact. Get checked out if you need to. As for the car, if you need a helping hand stripping out the car, i'm sure there's plenty of helping hands on here ready to jump in. Let me know if you need anything
TNT
Detrich 08-05-2010, 03:38 PM damn, that suxors... sorry to hear about this. but, at least you're ok... since u got hit from behind, most likely it's going to be ruled the other guy's fault. it's probably fixable- tho if it were me, i'd hope it gets totalled and then just buy another 8. they're never the same after a major mishap like that... keep us posted.
RawrX8 08-06-2010, 06:34 PM Its last time autocrossing...

VashGS 08-06-2010, 07:04 PM Sucks glad your ok. Fuel system shutoff safety probably is flipped.. and for good reason (as to why it would not start).
Bignatex 08-06-2010, 07:27 PM FUCK brad i wrecked my car the other day dodging a deer. =( sucky man hope its fixable but looking im with them... doubtful especially with how much you drove yours. =( wish you the best man
RawrX8 08-06-2010, 08:25 PM Also about the car not starting. The car does not even crank over, so fuel isnt an issue atm. Fuel pump turns on when ignition turns on.
RawrX8 08-07-2010, 01:03 AM Lets just say how depressing it is to sit at home all banged up poppin' meds, no car and when I look outside I see mine all bashed up.
FML
Krazed_Rx8 08-07-2010, 03:19 AM Yep that's totalled.
faith&firepower 08-07-2010, 03:34 AM ^ way to go buzz kill!
Ya what a statement
Wonder why he's on rx-8 forum
Krazed_Rx8 08-07-2010, 07:17 AM Look at the damage, frame was most likely bent. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.
MysticOS 08-07-2010, 08:47 PM Would suck to lose you from the community esp since your one of tghe few that keep it running. I hope everything turns out as best as they could for your health and all. Just think it could always be worst. Gl man
WTBRotary! 08-07-2010, 11:09 PM Sorry about your car man, but think of it this way. The insurance will probably give you more for the car than its worth so take off all your parts and get a new one. I can promise you that you can find a used one with less miles and is newer for less than what the insurance should give you.
I know its not as easy as it sounds, I wouldnt want to do that... but its kind of like a restart :/
sorry man hope your okay, and +1 to get a lawyer...
RawrX8 08-09-2010, 12:07 AM Being down in the dumps looking at my wrecked car under a tarp, waiting for insurance guys to look at my car and still hurting...
TANKERG 08-09-2010, 03:13 AM Did you find yourself a right hand drive FD?
RawrX8 08-09-2010, 08:56 AM Did you find yourself a right hand drive FD?
Kind of. I couldn't thank the owner enough for giving me a chance to drive the car around the block. Really made my day. Only time will tell what's going to happen. :)
Anijo 08-09-2010, 11:47 AM Oh man, and it's caged too? Badass!
dondo 08-09-2010, 11:56 AM looks like fun! how come you didn't bring it down south for a visit? and is it for sale??
ps there's a BB FD for sale 10k in the rx8s for sale forum right now
Razz1 08-09-2010, 12:04 PM I wish you luck.
makristal 08-09-2010, 12:18 PM That looked like a fun ride. All except that you couldn't fit too well in there :-)
That's awesome that you got that experience too.
RawrX8 08-09-2010, 12:24 PM looks like fun! how come you didn't bring it down south for a visit? and is it for sale??

I didn't want to take the car out for a total joy ride. Riding in his good graces, so a short trip down i5 and around town I thought was good enough.
It's not for sale to you... ;) it's not in the best shape either. Needs lots of brad loving.
It's a bolt in cusco cage nick.
FoxeyL8y 08-09-2010, 12:27 PM that car's definitely worthy of some good brad lovin... we'll all be jealous at meets if you show up in that. :)
how's the recovery going?
faith&firepower 08-09-2010, 04:30 PM You need to take me for a ride in that this Thursday...its my last dick's night.....same with Mike in that S/C.

Well its not my car, someone just let me take it out for a spin. Maybe it could be pending how this insurance deal works out.

RawrX8 08-10-2010, 07:14 PM ***update***
My insurance guy just stopped by and looked at the car. There is like a big U channel under the trunk of the car (minimal structure support looks wise (only exhaust hangs off of there)) He stated it looks like all the damage was done up top. He said it looks to be repairable from what he sees. He has to crunch some numbers and see if it costs more than the car.
Im afraid that if they do fix it the suspension mounting locations will never be true the same and car will never handle like it did. Also im not sure if Galaxy Gray is a pain to paint match like VR is. Might require a full paint job, which is more money.
If they take the car to remove body pieces to locate more damage I still have the option to remove my mods. Thats what he said he would do for me because he doesnt want to see me lose anything I did to the car, which is cool.
Ill get a phone call from him tomorrow afternoon, now we wait. I still yet to get in contact with his insurance. His agent doesnt seem to like to pick up her phone or return calls.
Bignatex 08-10-2010, 07:17 PM good luck man im waiting on my car.. its totalled for sure. just waiting on the settlement
patrick_andraste 08-10-2010, 07:20 PM Good Luck!
I think the suspension will be fine if they do fix it. My experience has been that if they straighten it it seems to be measured to tighter tolerances than the factory put them together as. But... my past experience has been with american cars, so I am not sure about Mazda factory tolerances.
RawrX8 08-10-2010, 07:37 PM If they total it I might beable to work out getting an FD. So kinda crossing fingers
Bignatex 08-10-2010, 07:44 PM i hope so man that FD sounded mean as fuck
RawrX8 08-10-2010, 08:19 PM i hope so man that FD sounded mean as fuck
Iphone really muffled a lot of the sound.
FazdaRX_8 08-10-2010, 08:21 PM +1 on the FD
RawrX8 08-10-2010, 08:42 PM Just now a waiting game, its like christmas waiting for parents to wake up. Wish the other guys agent would call me back too.
TANKERG 08-11-2010, 07:27 AM You looked pretty happy in that FD hahaha
makristal 08-11-2010, 10:13 AM You looked pretty excited to be in a Right Hand Drive car while you passed that Lexus...Hahaha
incubuseva 08-11-2010, 05:01 PM Damn dude. Shit luck. If you do scrap the 8, can I have the motor?? Or at least your rims?
:P Ok but seriously, if you don't want your shift knob I'll give you $ for it.
shadycrew31 08-11-2010, 05:11 PM only way that is repairable is if you cut the back half of another 8 and weld the whole thing together with a supporting tube chassis all around it.
Hope you get that FD.
RawrX8 08-11-2010, 10:28 PM Here is what Geico said to me...
TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS $ 7575.20
stinksause 08-11-2010, 11:41 PM Do you own it 100%? or making payments still?
If you own it 100%, then
1. take the money for repairs
2. part out the car
3. ???
4. get an FD
5. ???
6. Profit
RawrX8 08-12-2010, 12:06 AM Do you own it 100%? or making payments still?
Payments still. Its a 07'. Im waiting for the guy who hit me insurance company to come look at the car than I have a few shops ill have to tow the car to so they can quote me.
shadycrew31 08-12-2010, 01:34 AM Ah crap I thought you had it paid off.
Hope everything turns out in your favor man.
RawrX8 08-13-2010, 07:11 PM Farmers said 9.5k est atm. Before dealership sorts out electrical issue and more opening of the body happens. She felt that its prob a total.
RawrX8 08-16-2010, 08:13 PM Tomorrow the car heads off to a stealership to check out its electrical problems/starting problems.
After they get a price on the cost to fix it might push the car into a total state and no need to transport it to the bodyshop. I than get the car back into my driveway and off come the mods and they will be for sale locally first. Trying to figure out who I could sale the autopower rollbar to....hmm...Nem maybe?
dondo 08-16-2010, 09:32 PM does it just bolt in? any mods required to fit it? does it delete the rear seats or can you keep them?
RawrX8 08-17-2010, 12:18 AM does it just bolt in? any mods required to fit it? does it delete the rear seats or can you keep them?
Just bolts in. Remember I installed it in your parking lot. You will have to drill 4 holes in each location.
You can keep the rear seats, but the plastic pieces along the side of the seats have to be cut to fit the bar. We could swap pieces.
The carpet/matting has to be cut so the roll bar behind the seat sits flush with the metal.
And your dome light will be crushed a little.
Also it will make noises. It creaks and pops when I am driving it super hard. Even through I-5 you can hear it work around. Nature of the beast.
makristal 08-17-2010, 02:20 AM I still need coils ;-)
BunnyGirl 08-18-2010, 10:57 PM Here is what Geico said to me...
TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS $ 7575.20
To fix all that?!!! That seems way too low.
It was $8400 to fix my front end when it ended up under an the back of an SUV and I had far less damage than that. They replaced my hood, bumper cover, license plate mount, license plate, and a tiny bit of frame work to the bumper support (they said it wasn't even out of spec but they could tell it wasn't perfectly the way it was before so they fixed it too). I mostly just had damage from the spare tire mounted on the back of the SUV that crumpled my hood and the top part of the bumper and then some strange hook thing punctured a hole through my license plate and the mount for it. No other damage, not even a headlight!
Hell, it was even $1200 to replace my bumper cover and one of the foam things under it when some dumbass backed into me at a gas station last Thanksgiving and punched a hole in it with his trailer hitch! Yes, my poor car sounds like it's been tortured, but at least none of those were my fault. LOL
RawrX8 08-18-2010, 11:02 PM To fix all that?!!!
Well his insurance company offered me a bit more. Car got its wiring/electrical problem figured out. Its on the verge of a total. Car should be off to the body shop to confirm that within the next few days.
Now I wait to see if its total and I can wrangle an FD.
Endless Rotaries 08-19-2010, 12:18 PM Sorry missed you on AIM. sorry about the car. PM me. i'm still around.
afgmoto1978 08-19-2010, 03:08 PM Now I wait to see if its total and I can wrangle an FD.
:) Be prepared for the Financial Disaster haha
Hit me up if you need a seat mount that gives you ample head and leg room.:D::D:
Anijo 08-19-2010, 03:13 PM Hey Brad, make sure you make a Loss in Value claim as well. Your car is probably going to drop another 4-5k in worth if they make this big of a repair.
pdxhak 08-19-2010, 03:16 PM ^+1 Definitely claim loss of value.
$7575.20 seems really low. What did you find out from your body shop?
cjkim 08-19-2010, 03:32 PM Farmers said 9.5k est atm. Before dealership sorts out electrical issue and more opening of the body happens. She felt that its prob a total.
more opening of the body?
if any cutting has been done, it's almost a definite that it won't be totalled.
dondo 08-19-2010, 04:01 PM ^+1 Definitely claim loss of value.
$7575.20 seems really low. What did you find out from your body shop?
it's not at the body shop yet.
hyper4mance2k 08-24-2010, 05:25 PM Any updates Brad?
patrick_andraste 08-24-2010, 07:14 PM Brad, I am interested in the steering wheel and the underbody braces if you do total it. oh, and the wheels perhaps? I do not know if they will fit on your future FD or not
RawrX8 08-29-2010, 02:32 PM Its being fixed. I have an option about also picking up an FD. Nothing is set in stone. After thinking about it for awhile it was smart to just have the car fixed instead of pushing a total.
patrick_andraste 08-29-2010, 06:08 PM okay. I agree, it is probably best.
FazdaRX_8 08-29-2010, 09:08 PM Nice, I would love to have an Rx-8 and RX-7 sitting in my garage
Sams40 08-30-2010, 02:15 PM The exact same thing happend to me while I was driving the S40 a while ago! Some ass thought that if the left hand turn lane light turns green, he has the right to plow his huge Ram 3500 into the back of my poor car. I think he managed to run over it. I was just standing at a red light and heard the rear of my car get crumpled by some fat lame truck. It was rediculous, insurance covered it all but the car never drove the same.
Also, avoid the bodyshops near Alderwood, I've had issues or heard of issues with them. The one that fixed mine, left the Volvo just sitting on the side of the street x.x
RawrX8 09-14-2010, 10:21 PM Update. So getting close to almost 2 months without my car. I have a few ideas what I want to do. Theres something I reallllly want but I have to do lots of measurements before it goes on.

Yeah, but bumming rides isnt fun.
FazdaRX_8 09-15-2010, 01:10 AM looks good, I didn't realize how much you rolled your fenders wow!!!
makristal 09-15-2010, 01:11 AM Baby steps closer Brad! I'm waiting on a new engine...But you're so close to getting back in there!
stinksause 09-15-2010, 02:20 AM at least your exhaust tips are cleaner than mine!
dondo 09-15-2010, 05:12 AM ^ lol
and1kidd 09-15-2010, 12:12 PM Brad, tell us what your plans are.

RawrX8 09-15-2010, 09:13 PM Lookin good. So is it gettin a full respray?
No. Just to rear doors. I'll be inspecting it with one of my cool Boeing flash lights. I'm sure they will beable to blend it no problem.
The car goes into paint tomorrow.
LCheung 09-16-2010, 03:24 AM That's lookin' pretty good. How are you doing?
