Crashed my Rx-8 a month ago or so. :wallbash: Got it back now and there's one thing that's bothering me alot. The parts that's been repainted are noticably darker than rest of the car. With decent lighting, it's pretty easy to see. I kinda thought that they would be able to do better than this but. Well the question is then, anyone here got parts of your car repainted and can see the difference between the new and old paint?

Go back to the body shop and complain :)

Paint matching is an art......and some are better than others.

It is difficult matching metallics though...the "lay" of the metallic really effects how the final job looks...even if the color is correct

that means the shop u picked suck ass

I been to 2 different shop and both are great.

You have to go back to the body shop and complain. Tell them to use the factory paint, not some substitute.
If the color does not match now, imagine how it will look a few years down the road... different paints tend to change colors differently and if it does not match now, that will only be worse as time passes.

I didn't pick the shop. My insurance company picked the shop. They're connected to the local Mazda dealer here doing work for them. Might even be the same company, not sure. But yeah, I'll call them tomorrow. No one here got color difference? ;/

if your insurance company picked the shop then you have EVERY right to complain.

i would go back to them and complain. and if they dont fix it. say you will call the insurance company.

in the usa, you can keep telling them to redo it until it looks satisfactory if you use insurance shops. and they have a "lifetime warranty."

Reason they are 2 diff colors in light, with the new paint being darker, is because paint tends to fade under light (damn those UV rays) or other corrosive agents, especially if you dont wax it constantly. So without being there to see it, I would say it's probably from normal wear.

My 8 is a 2005 and I just had my rear bumper painted (parking lot accident) and it matches perfectly!

Go back to the shop and complain and/or take it somewhere else.

Def. go back and complain. Should not be obvious. I was not happy with a body shop in SJ that does a lot of Mazdas and made them redo it a couple times. Sloppy work for how much they charge.

Agreed, it should match perfectly. And yeah, paint matching is an art. My fear is that, even if your body shop repaints it 5 times, they still won't get it right because they don't have the talent to do it properly. But it is possible to have it match perfectly. Whenever this happens to me, I get online and do research, searching for "good body shops". Usually the good shops charge a lot more than the crappy ones. Good luck!
