I've read the thread on fuel additives elsewhere, but I'm curious is Pettit has provided any input on whether they think Protek-R is still a good idea with 09 RX-8s?

I think it is still a good idea to run premix in your 09.

^^^^ This, I second the thought.
You will get more vacuum.

When you say you will get more vacuum do you mean better compression?

Might want to check into other premix options:

What has been determined of those clumps? Do they break down in the fuel or have they clogged some injectors?

Either way I just ordered the Idemitsu pre-mix instead, along with "Keep Cool" radiator additive, thanks for the warning.

Possibly, I do not have a compression gauge connected while I drive around. :mdrmed:
I do have a boost/vacuum gauge.

Thanks for the replies. I made it through the huge thread on this subject a while ago, and decided to, for now at least, go with about a full Dixie cup (5 oz.) of Idemitsu for a full tank of gas (or about 1 oz. per quarter of a tank fill-up).

I'm going to find some containers that hold exactly 7oz of liquid and keep a couple in my trunk full of Idemitsu for any time I need to fill up. When I read the Idemitsu recommendation they said 1/2 oz per 1 gallon.

2-stroke oil containers for lawn mowers are about that size and work well. I have one that I fill with 6 oz Idemitsu for each fill up.

I have a bottle like this U use with Idemitsu. It's easy to measure 1/4 ounce - 1 full ounce

/\ if it's anything like the one i had you have to squeeze thwe f**k out of it to get the oil into the top container ..... I found it a PITA

Yeah, I tried that too. Didn't seem to work that well, but even if it did, who wants to measure out and add 1 oz at a time?

Yeah, it takes a little to squeeze it but I don't mind since it's convenient. I usually fill up when I still have a 1/4 of a tank left so I usually add around 6 ounces. I use 8 ounces per full tank. So I fill some, add an ounce, fill some more, add another ounce, etc... I think this is a good practice especially if you believe in swoope's ideas about the dump & pump problems.

Isn't that recommendation for a non-functioning OMP system? I figured that with a functioning OMP, and a 2009 with improved OMP, that about half their recommendation was a good idea.

The amount with and without the OMP have been discussed before. In my reading I've found the opinions differ on the amount. Although, some knowledgeable people around here think that anything less than 6oz. per tank doesn't help even with the OMP.

I haven't researched it but I have an 05 so I am going to go with 6 oz's when I'm at 1/4 tank. Check the Odimitsu site or email their cust service dept for more info.
The website I bought it ,from just says 1/2 oz per 1 gallon for rotary motors it doesnt even say for Just Renesis or FD or FC or 3 rotor. I suppose as long as you don't over do it you'll be better off using the amount they say to use in general.

Idemitsu will tell you to not use it at all if you have functioning OMP just because it's not necessary. They do claim that there's no evidence to suggest it will harm the catalytic converter. I'm just using what I do for some extra insurance. My gut feeling is that it's probably not necessary, at least on the 09+ RX-8, but that it probably isn't going to hurt much of anything, either.

I bought a generic 16oz clear travel bottle to use for premix. I just fill it half way before every fill up and do not worry about being +/- on the quantity. You should be able to buy these anywhere they sell small travel items (i.e. soap, shampoo and etc).

I'm running premix because of the deficiency of the 2 OMP system in my 04. In an 09, I doubt it's usefulness.

lol, yep. If they ask me what I'm doing I tell them I'm a chemist and it adds an extra 20hp.

Bumping thread, got a case and been using it, haven't noticed a difference, my bottles seem clean of anything other than oil though.

Maybe I'll pour the next one in a container first and then pour into tank to check if there's anything..
