Service for Auto Trans

My 04 is due to have the trans fluid changed as I have 33K on it. My local stealer wants $160 while my trusted local garage does it for $80. I can see no reason to enrich the dealer. How many quarts does an RX8 hold and does it have a filter? Is there anything I need to know before bringing it in?

Not sure if you are aware of this "TSB", yes it should be flushed....

Wayne Mazda is a good dealer. If you decide to go there ask for Kevin to work on your car. He is a rx8 master tech. Ask them what they do when they change the A/T fluild. Aslo if you are close to Hamburg NJ call up Level Ten. I know they flush it there and might be alittle cheaper than the dealership.

Wayne is a good dealer, yes ask for Kevin

Also, I think there is a 10% discount for any maintenance work. ask for it. I have that coupon on my invoice.

I have a bad taste in my mouth on transmission fluid changes for some reason...I have had 4 or 5 of them start slipping and shifting poorly after fluid change/flush. If the fluid is still red, I personally won't change it after those experiences. All were different vehicles, different shops, and all using recomended oil and filter. Hell, I even did the last one myself as a test....it did it as well. I have dont them on low HP cars without issue though. I went 140K on my vette without changing it, and it shifted like brand new and fluid still looked good. But, if you have burnt fluid...its gotta go.

Not telling anyone not to change fluid....just sharing my experience with it.
