Hi everyone...I have a few ?? I am looking at a 2004 rx8 with 40,000 miles on it. It has an aftermarket greedy turbo system on it.I have taken it to a few places , but got different snswers...and no one checked compression...most dealerships wont even touch it...It has a lag when you stomp on the gas at times and back fires...leaking oil pretty good from the oil rec for the turbo, wich can be fixed pretty easy..it has a tapping at around 7000 rpm....I never took it there so I didn't hear it ...a tech did ...He wasent a rx8 specialist , but he said it had been popped....but it drives pretty strong.. I called a mazda dealership in waco texas near where I live and they said it could just be a flapper valve in the intake, wich it did read.. she said that could be most of the problem..just that everyone looking isent that good with a rotery....

2004 RX-8 requires some caution to begin with. Buying one that's been boosted, bleeding oil, tapping, backfiring..... I'd say the original owner didn't give a s**t, and unloaded it before it was too late.

If they're willing to sell the car for $9K, ya gotta wonder. That's around $4-$5K under the going price for such a car. Check out the asking prices for comparable cars on Autotrader.com. Beware!

Although, if you get a good enough price, you can figure in an engine replacement and it might be a worthwhile deal.

dude seriously.. why would you want to do that to yourself? buy a car and stick in the shop right away for WHO KNOWS how much repairs it needs.. you listed 3 things which can be attributed to MAJOR problems including the engine..

if they are willing to go for $9k for you, they are desperate and feel you will fall victim to a worthless POS...

just.. don't.

dude, get a clean low mile car and mod it yourself. i know the price is low and it has a turbo kit, but you have no idea what abuse its been put through. like other have said.....NO!
