View Full Version : So apperantly the 8 is as fast as a late 90's civic EX
RX-8Newb 01-18-2008, 02:56 PM I was getting on the highway today and we were in the merge lane and i was on the phone so the car was still in 2nd at 6k and i punched it to get over onto the highway, and there was a civic next me that i could not pass and get in front of untill the top of third when he backed off. And he went by me after i slowed down and it was a factory civic ex like a late 90's year... Ugh... This is getting sad... I know everyone will say yeah but he has a civic you drive an rx-8 that looks and handles so much better. I feel like i have a doberman that is about as badass as a poodle lol. Atleast on the highway...
spd frk 01-18-2008, 03:09 PM You haven't considered that he may have had a motor swap or some other sleeper mods. I don't know, but I don't seem to have any of these problems. I have taken down Hemi 300C's, 225HP TT's, RSX-S's and other not problem over the years.
rotarygod 01-18-2008, 03:19 PM I have a 2000 Civic EX. If you couldn't beat it, something is SERIOUSLY wrong with your car! A stock Civic is not anywhere close to as fast. It had work done to it or you have an automatic!!! ;)
rglbegl 01-18-2008, 03:21 PM I do not street race.
but if I did
I would never post it here, you see . . .there is this policy . . . . .
RX-8Newb 01-18-2008, 03:24 PM I am pretty sure it did not have a swap. I can not be certain though. I was just a mediocre looking Civic ex with no visable mods. And no noise from exhaust i could just hear his intake a little. He might have gotten a half second jump on me too but i dont know i was talking to someone at the time... It makes sense to me though a car with 180hp that is JUST under 3k lbs ( i had my car weighed )vs. a 120 ish hp car that is 2500 lbs. Does not seem too far fetched.
RX-8Newb 01-18-2008, 03:27 PM well thats a shame if there is policy on a message board about not talking about something. I thought i lived in America, my bad. It was more like trying to get on the highway as someone driving right beside me. If that makes you feel any better. Maybe if the car had another 50hp i would not feel the need to haul ass getting up to the speed limit. and then maybe i would spend less than 400 dollars a month on gas just going to school and work.
puffxy 01-18-2008, 03:28 PM We have a lot of old busted up looking civic's with k20's and such in them around these parts so I wouldn't be too surprised if I got my ass handed to me in a mid to late 90s civic. Guess it depends on your area, but it certainly is possible.
rglbegl 01-18-2008, 03:33 PM We have a CRX clan in town that can run under 11 secs in the 1/4 mile, but they look totally stock. (till you pop the hood)
And this board kinda frowns upon street racing . . .notice that we have no "kill" section.
RX-8Newb 01-18-2008, 03:35 PM i dont understand why they give a crap i dont think i have ever seen anyone out of there mid 20's driving an 8, i am sure people will say otherwise but where i live i cant say that i have. Well except for the middle aged women that drive them.

I see two things wrong with this post.
1) You somehow think you have freedom of speech on a private message board. Elaborating on this would be a fallacy, so I won't even bother.
2) You bitch about gas prices. Correct me if I'm wrong but you probably saw the sticker on the side window that said 18mpg right? Or, assuming you bought the car used, you at least did a bit of research? Personal responsibility man, if you don't like the car trade it in and get yourself your own little 90's civic. It seems right up your alley.
kevinD1226 01-18-2008, 03:36 PM when i screw around with other cars and i loose i just tell them im having issues with my pistons and thats y i lost
rglbegl 01-18-2008, 03:37 PM what is the theory? . . . . . every 10 pounds equals 1hp? every 8lbs=1hp?
Ya Ya . . I know there is more to it than that . . . .
dmc27 01-18-2008, 03:37 PM Probably not really a "kill" type story, but it's good to know to stay the hell away from you.
Pushing through the top of 3rd while blabbin on the cell phone, eh? nice.
JRichter 01-18-2008, 03:39 PM I can't believe I'm wasting my time with this BS again but here goes:
The first time is 0-60, the second 1/4 mile...
2000 Honda Civic EX Coupe 8.4 16.7
1996 Honda Civic EX Sedan 10.5 17.6
2006 Honda Civic Si 6.3 14.9
2004 Mazda RX-8 5.8 14.49 (6 speed) (MT Mar '04)
Not even close IF it was stock.

Of course these are times from 0 mph so it's not the same but you get the idea.
kevinD1226 01-18-2008, 04:30 PM well if u dont know how to drive ur 8 even a geo metro can pass u.. NOT saying u dont kno how but just throwing it out there
jones75254 01-18-2008, 04:32 PM Title of this thread should be "Apparently a late 90's Civic is faster than my 8".
YOU got bitched, not the RX-8. Next time get off ur cell phone and pay attention and the outcome will be different. (well...should be)
delhi 01-18-2008, 04:43 PM Does anyone smell something sour? Oh must be a troll. :lol2:
Likely a civic/rsx/350z/g35 whatever owner jealous of the 8. Starts up a pseudo ID and pretend he's an 8 owner and proceeds to bash it.
Had a rental civic ex once. no way it can keep up with an rx-8.
heyarnold69 01-18-2008, 04:51 PM i had a 99 civic ex once ... yeah... it was stock like all me other cars ... ohh wait thats right ... it had a b16a3 in it and was ported and had a nice greddy turbo that was very pretty and redlined at 11,000 rpms. I could take down vets with that baby..... haha
ahhh memories! My almost stock rx-7 could beat it every time:) ahhh i miss both of em.
Uncivilizedracer 01-18-2008, 04:53 PM Interesting. . . somehow i dont see that happening unless your in 6th gear trying to do a pass , thats the only time i have let a civic wiss by me
FABRO 01-18-2008, 04:59 PM Probably a civic with an integra LS engine and simple bolt-ons.
I do not street race.
but if I did
I would never post it here, you see . . .there is this policy . . . . .
hahahahahaha :spank:
zoom44 01-18-2008, 05:02 PM i dont understand why they give a crap i dont think i have ever seen anyone out of there mid 20's driving an 8, i am sure people will say otherwise but where i live i cant say that i have. Well except for the middle aged women that drive them.
because its illegal and innocent people die when street racing ends in accidents. by the way i turn 40 this year. most of the people i know who drive 8s are over 30. it doesnt matter tho- even the 20something year old 8 owners i know understand how bad street racing is.
hang up the phone and drive.
several street racing posts in this thread will disappear in a few seconds. the thread will be closed....
